MOOC8/71.20 {18290228} 28 February 1829 Hugo Hendrik van Niekerk Maria Jacoba van der Spuy Exh:d the 4th March 1829 n:o 27 Inventory and appraisement of the effects belonging to the joint estate of Hugo Hendrik van Niekerk Hugoson and Maria Jacoba van der Spuy left by the lastmentioned intestate to the benefit of her surviving husband and to the seven minor children procreated in wedlock, named the aforesaid inventory having been taken by the undersigned Commissioners of the Orphan Board and appraised by the auctuneer Jacobus Gerhardus Fredericus Pietersen on the part of the Orphan Chamber, and Cornelis Brink Jans son on the part of the widower and consist in the following articles, viz. In the dwelling house Memorandum. It is hereby noticed that the surviving widower is entitled to his paternal inheritance from the estate of his father the late Hugo Hendrik van Niekerk at present under the administration of Mr Ryk Loedolff as executor in the said estate, which estate not being liquidated the exact amount thereof cannot be ascertained, at the liquidation of the said estate one half of the said inheritance is to be accounted for the Orphan Chamber, after deducting the amount due by the widower to the estate, and his debt for articles bought at the public sale in order, either to be administered by the Chamber, or to be added to the portions of his children, and remain for the usufruct in his possession. Thus done, inventoried and appraised at the place called Weltevreeden situated at Groot Drakenstein in the district of Stellenbosch on the 28th day of February 1829 according to a statement made by the widower named in the premises, who declared to have acted with good faith in this respect and not to have kept any thing concealed belonging to the estate aforesaid, and the appearer further declared that he is and will at all times be ready and willing to confirm his statement by solemn oath shoud it be required, promising at the same time that if after the date of these presents any other property of this estate might be discovered, he will faithfully communicate it to the Orphan Chamber in order to amplify this inventory with the property so discovered. In witness whereof we the Commissioners together with the appearer and the appraisers, and the Chief Clerk in the Orphan Chamber have subscribed to these presents.
