Inventory of all such property as has been relinquished by the death ab
intestato of Barend Christoffel du Plessies s:r on the 23:d day of the month of
February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty nine at
Tarka in the district of
Somerset for the benefit of his surviving
widow Alida Johanna Carolina Pelser on the one and his children named
Thus inventoried and valued at
Tarka in
the district of
Somerset on the 21:st day of
the month of March in the year of our Lord, 1829, according to a statement made
by the widow and the aged heirs Jan du Plessies and Barend Christoffel du
Plessies who declared to have acted herein bonafide and that to the best of
their knowledge they have not withheld or secreted any thing that belonged to
the aforesaid estate and the said appearers further declared that they are and
will at all times be ready and willing to confirm their statement by solemn
oath if required, promising at the same time that if after the date of these
presents any property of this estate might be discovered shall and will
faithfully communicate it to the Orphan Chamber or their agent in order to
amplify this inventory with the property so discovered.

| A half loanplace called Riet Valley situated in the fieldcornetcy of Tarka in the district of Somerset , the other half of which was sold by
the deceased on the 13:th December 1828 to his two sons Jan du Plessis and

not as yet pass the necessary bonds in favor of the deceased. The two sons

Reinet , acknowledged himself to be indebted to the deceased per balance
due upon a butchers bill the sum of Rd:s116, for recovery but which sum the
said Barend Christoffel Duvenage has not as yet accounted for to the deceased,
and that of that sum Jan du Plessies has to claim Rd:s60. There is however no
document to that effect among the papers of the estate, remains | 56 |
| I hereby certify that the within named butchers bill in value
Rd:s325 was delivered by me to Mr Cornelis Meyer in consequence of an order
from Jan du Plessies brought to me by Botha who was then schoolmaster at
Meyers, and that it was never returned to me, nor do I know any thing of it
from that period. Cape Town, 13 March, 1832 - P:G: Elemans. This butchers bill
was against Augustus Muller of Somerset who
became insolvent and there were no dividend paid out of his
estate | that Mr Elemans received a butchers bill from the heir Jan
du Plessis for account of the deceased on the 1 February 1828 for the purpose
of being recovered by him, but that it has not yet been paid, and that Mr
Elemans states that he gave it Cornelis Meyer at the request of Jan du
Plessies, but it appears by a letter from Cornelis Meyer that he returned the
same to Mr Elemans, the butchers bill in question amounts to | 325 |

deceased and his first wife Anna Elisabeth Steenkamp must therefore be
ascertained from Jan Harm Steenkamp and Marthinus Johannes du Plessies who
acted as guardians over the minor heirs to that estate as neither the widow nor
heirs can give any information about it. |
| By a document found among the papers it appears
that the deceased has sold to his minor daughter Magdalena Johanna Maria du
Plessies a female slave named Regiena for the sum of Rd:s800 and which sum is to be
deducted from her share on account of said daughter being out of her senses,
deaf and dumb and not able to help herself, said fem: slave has had the care of
her since her birth. |
