MOOC8/45.41 {18280510} 10 May 1828 Andrew Mather , Edward George Inventory and appraisement of all such joint stock belonging to Edward George and Andrew Mather, relinquished by the death of the last mentioned on the fifth day of the month of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty eight. The deceased having by his last will and testament executed on the 13 March 1826 before the Notary Joseph Sturgis and witnesses requested and appointed the Board of Orphan Masters to be and to act as executors of said will, and by deed of agreement passed by the deceased and his partner Edward George before the said Notary Sturgis on the 1:st instant declared that in the event of his death, the joint stock belonging to the concern shall be valued and appraised in the manner, more fully stated in said agreement in consequence whereof the undersigned commissioned Members of the Orphan Board have taken the joint stock under proper inventory, and found the same to consist in the following articles which have been appraised by Mr John Blare on the part of the deceased and Mr William Parker, on the part of Mr E:d George appointed to that effect, namely [In the balance sheet n: 9 dated 5 May 1828 of George and Mather, the valuation of merchandise entered.] Thus inventoried and appraised at the Cape of Good Hope on the 10, 12, 17 and 19 May 1828 according to the statement made by Edward George and William Parker who declared to have acted herein bona fide, and that to the best of their knowledge they have withheld or secreted nothing of what belonged to the aforesaid joint stock and the appearers further declared that they are and will at all times be ready and willing to confirm their statement by solemn oath if required promising at the same time, that if after the dates of these presents any other property belonging to the aforesaid joint stock be discovered, they shall faithfully communicate it to the Orph: Chamber in order to amplify this inventory with the property so discovered. In witness whereof we the Commissioners together with the appearers, and John Blare as appraiser on behalf of the Orphan Chamber and William Parker on behalf of Edward George and me the Secretary have subscribed to these presents. The said appraisers hereby further declare, that the foregoing valuation is the just, proper and true valuation of the articles inumerated in this inventory to the best of their skill and knowledge.
