Extract journal held by the dep:ty Landdrost of Beaufort on Tuesday Jan:y 23 1826
The Hott:t Hend:k Blaauw appeared and stated that he has brought the
remaining property of the estate of the deceased female Hottentot Candas with
whose daughter Lys he cohabits with and the property is as follows
the rest having died and eaten op thro’ poverty
The female Hottentot Lys appears or requisition and coroborates the
statement of the Hottentot Hend:k Blaauw
The burger Jan Herm:s Coertz appears on requisition and states that he is
also aware that the 20 sheep and goats received by the female Hott:t Truy
daughter of the deceased Candas were all used at Elands Fountain which she Truy was living with the
Hottentot Andries Jures then in the service of Adrian van Wyk sen:r of which
circumstance the Englishman named Man is also acquainted with. He is now at the Waai Hoek , district of Worcester , left sick but who is soon expected
to return.
Resolved that an extract hereof do accompany the auction roll of the
property sold on account of the late Candas for the information and
consideration of the Board of Orphan Masters.
