Grahams Town 21:st June 1828 Don: Moodie C: Mill, L:t Colonel Sworn before me at Graham’s Town on the 26:th June 1828 W:B: Dundas, C:l Commissioner List of claims recieved by the Agent to the Board of Orphan Masters of this Colony against the intestate estate of the late Thomas Lawson, Esquire, Resident Magistrate of Albany J:G: de Villiers, Agent Thursday the 19 June 1828 The death of Thomas Lawson, Resident Magistrate for the district of Albany having been reported to me, the undersigned John George de Villiers Agent to the Board of Orphan Masters at Graham’s Town , I at 7 oclock this morning repaired to the residence of the deceased (the same being a Government house situated in this town) and after having caused all boxes etc:a, etc:a belonging to the estate /or supposed to belong to the same/ to be placed in a room, did agreeably to my instructions, seal the doors of said room as well as the window shutters with the district seal, in presence of William Bolden Dundas Esquire, Civil Commissioner of Albany and Somerset and lieutenant colonel Mill of His Majesty’s 55:th Regiment now stationed on the frontier, the latter having been particularly acquainted with the deceased who is Thomas Lawson, about 45 years of age, born in Scotland , whose father is also named Thomas Lawson and supposed to reside at Pitlethie in Scotland (near Leuchars in Vife) Thus done and sealed at Graham’s Town 19 June 1828 In our presence: W: B: Dundas, C:l Commissioner J: G: de Villiers, Agent The same day Thursday the 19 June 1828 I further caused all the doors and window shutters of the dwelling house and outbuildings to be closed and sealed preparatory to making search for a will /if any/ or taking an inventory of the estate which was fixed for Saturday next the 21:st instant at 11 oclock a:m:, major Dundas and colonel Mill having engaged to be present. As witnesses: B: Wienand jun:r, John Willis J:G: de Villiers, Agent Saturday 21:st June 1828 Major Dundas having been called from home on duty, I the undersigned Agent, accompanied by Donald Moodie Esq:r and lieutenant colonel Mill proceeded to the house of the deceased and on examining the seals found the same to be safe and unbroken and having caused them to be taken off commenced a search for a will but none being found the effects were taken under inventory and appraised by the said Donald Moodie Esq:r and lieutenant colonel Mill, in manner as stated in the inventory hereunto annexed.
