MOOC8/42.2 {18270222} 22 February 1827 William Campbell Inventory of all such property found on board theanchored in this Table Bay , belonging to the estate of the late William Campbell of Singapore , assistant to the Resident in the Police Department who departed this life on the twenty first day of the month of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven. The deceased having by his last will and testament executed at Singapore , dated on the 20th day of November 1826 appointed as his sole heiress his mother Helen Campbell of Ardmore in the island of Isla , north Britain and in the event of her demise, his sister Jean Campbell also of Ardmore aforesaid and has appointed the aforesaid heirs together with John Argyle Maxwell his executors to his will and testament. The executors however being abroad and the deceased not having made any disposition with respect to the property left by him in this Colony, the Board of Orphan Masters have ex officio taken those effects under their administration for account and on behalf of his heirs and been inventoried by the undersigned special Commissioners of the Board aforesaid, was found to consist in the following viz:t Thus inventoried in Table Bay at the Cape of Good Hope on board the aforesaid ship on the twenty second day of the month of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty seven according to a statement made by the first officer James Field who declared to have acted herein bonafide and that to the best of his knowledge he has not withheld or secreted any thing that belonged to the aforesaid estate; and the said appearer further declared that he is and will be at all times be ready and willing to confirm his statement by solemn oath if required, promising at the same time that if after the date of these presents any property of the estate might be discovered, shall and will faithfully communicate it to the Orphan Chamber in order to amplify this inventory with the property so discovered. In witness whereof we the Commissioners together with the appearer and the Secretary have subscribed to these presents.
