MOOC8/41.26 {18260926} 26 September 1826 William Ostler Inventory of all such property found on board theanchored in this Table Bay belonging to the intestate estate of William Ostler who commanded the said vessel and is missed on the 27:th ultimo whilst the vessel was riding at anchor in Mosselbay and supposed to have thrown himself overboard, which inventory has been taken for the benefit of his unknown heirs. The aforesaid property having been taken under the administration of the Board of Orphan Masters of this Colony in behalf of the said unknown heirs and been inventoried by the undersigned special Commissioners of the Board aforesaid was found to consist in the following, viz:t It is further noted that the Commander has stated upon an enquiry made to him by the undersigned Commissioners that no other papers have been found besides those mentioned in this inventory that according to the manifest there are certain articles shipped on the name of the captain which cannot be touched as they belong to the cargo of the ship. He further requests that the gold watch may not be sold till such time that his wife shall have sent her directions to the disposal of the same. Thus done at the Cape of Good Hope in the Orphan Chamber where the property abovementioned was brought by the Commander on the 26:th day of the month of September in the year 1826 according to a statement made by the Commander who declared to have acted herein bonafide and that to the best of his knowledge he has not withheld or secreted any thing that belonged to the aforesaid estate and the said appearer further declared that he is and will at all times be ready and willing to confirm his statement by solemn oath if required promising at the same time that if after the date of these presents any property of this estate might be discovered shall and will faithfully communicate it to the parties interested at his arrival in England . In witness whereof we the Commissioners together with the Appearer and the Secretary have subscribed to these presents.
