Canterburry
Inventory of all such property as has been relinquished by the death of
Hendrik Canterburry of the twenty eighth day of the month of April in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty five at 11 ’o clock in the
evening. The deceased having by his last will and testament executed on the
29:t April 1822 before the notary public Rynier Beck and witnesses instituted
and appointed his sole and universal heirs
And further by a codicil dated 15 July 1824 (annexed to his aforesaid last
will and testament) requested and appointed the Worshipful Board of Orphan
Masters of this Colony to be and to act as his exectors
In consequense of which the aforesaid property was duly inventoried by the
undersigned special Commissioners from the Orphan Board and was found to
consist in the following, viz:t
The remainder of furniture as well as other articles found in the house of
the deceased having been claimed by the free woman Eva Satsman as her property
she having at the same time produced a specific list thereof, which is hereunto
annexed
Thus inventoried at the Cape of Good Hope in the house aforesaid on the
2:d day of the month of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and twenty five according to a statement made by the free woman Eva Satsman in
the presence of the respective heirs of the deceased who declared to have acted
herein bonafide and that to the best of her knowledge she has not withheld or
secreted any thing that belonged to the aforesaid estate, and the said appearer
further declared that she is and will at all times be ready and willing to
confirm her statement by solemn oath if required promising at the same time
that if after the date of these presents any property of this estate might be
discovered she shall faithfully communicate it to the Orphan Chamber in order
to amplify this inventory with the property so discovered.
In witness whereof :s the undersigned Commissioner together with the
appearer and the Secretary have subscribe to the presents.
