MOOC8/39.33 {18250418} 18 April 1825 Adam Napier Inventory of all such property as has been relinquished by the death of Adam Napier Esq:re surgeon in the honourable East India Company Service, of the Bengal Residency which happened on the sixteenth day of the present month of April, at the house of Mr Carel Beständig N:o 22 Gravestreet , Cape Town the deceased who arrived in this Colony on the [ ..... ] as passenger on board of thecaptain [ ..... ] having his last will and testament executed on the 14:t February 1824 under his seal and signature, in the presence of three witnesses disposed of his property in favor of 0and in case of their death without issue in favour of his mother Helen Napier or in case of her predecease, of the children of his brother Alexander Napier. But since the deceased in his aforesaid will and testament has not appointed any executors or administrators in as far as the property relinquished here is concerned, the Board of Orphan Masters of this Colony have entered upon the administration of this property ex officio on behalf of his heirs abroad, and the said property having in consequence been inventoried by the undersigned Commissioners of the aforesaid Board and was found to consist in the following viz:t In the house of the said Mr C: Beständig Thus inventoried at the Cape of Good Hope in the house aforesaid on the eightteenth day of the month of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty five, according to a statement made by the said Mr Carel Beständig who declared to have acted herein bonafide and that to the best of his knowledge has not withheld or secreted any thing belonging to the aforesaid estate and the said appearer further declared that he is and will at all times be ready and willing to confirm his statement by solemn oath if required promising at the same time that if after the date of these presents any property of this estate might be discovered shall faithfully communicate it to the Orphan Chamber in order to amplify this inventory with the property so discovered.
