Before the full assembly.
Whereas all and sundry of these residents, who use a few yard measures and weights to peddle their merchandise, had not been warned by issued bills to properly have them assessed by the commissioners on the new date on the eleventh of this month, according to annual custom, in which, however, many remained in breach. And considering that this is a matter of great importance and in which great deceit and injustice are commonly committed, it has been resolved, in order to prevent this, by the Honourable Governor and this E.A. Council, the unwilling, who on the 11th of this month... this did not end there and they appeared, again by a second advertisement, publication and demand of tickets, to order that on the 2nd of the following month of March, being Friday, at the early hours of the morning, on the new date before the committees they would have to compare their yard measures and weights again in order to be properly calibrated, on the penalty that those who come to sell their merchandise with any unequal yard measures and weights, or who themselves only acquire them for their own use, without them having been calibrated in this year 1696, will be subject to a financial amendment of 50 Rsrs. and that as many fines will be issued for this, the fines will be applied pro tax.131
Thus done, arrested and confined in the Castle of Good Hope, on the date as above.

Alsoo niet jegenstaande alle ende een ijgelijck deser ingesetenen, die eenige ellen maten en gewichten om haar coopmanschap te venten, gebruijcken, bij geaffigeerde billetten waren gewaerschout omme de selve nae de jaarlijkse gewoonte voor gecommitteerdens op de nieuwe cat op den elffden deser behoorlijck te doen eiken, waer van echter veele in gebreecken waren gebleeven: En geleth het een saacke is van groote aangelegentheijt en waer mede groote bedriegerijen en ongerechtigheden plegen gecommitteert te werden: Soo is, tot weeringe van dien, bij den Ede. Heer Gouverneur en desen E.A.Raade geresolveert de onwilligen, die op den 11 deser voors. ten dien eijnde niet en waren verscheenen, andermael door een tweede advertentie, publicatie en affitie van billetten, te ordonneren dat sij op den 2e. van de aanstaande maand Maart, sijnde Vrijdach, des smorgens de klocke uijren, op de nieuwe kat voor g’committeerdens met haar ellen-maten en gewichten nochmael sullen hebben te compareren om mede behoorlijck g’ijckt te werden, op poene dat die geene, die haar coopmanschappen met eenige ongelijcke ellen maten en gewichten comen t’ vercoopen, off die selffs maer tot haer eijgen gebruijck besigen, sonder dat die in desen jaare 1696 sijn g’ijckt, vervallen sullen sijn in een pecuniele amende van 50 Rsrs. en dat soo menichmael daer op bekeurt sullen werden, werdende de boeten daer aff geappliceert pro fisco.131
