With the return of the seal hunt from Saldanha Bay on the 19th, news had arrived that the seals on the islands in that bay had begun to breed again, and were also coming to shore in large numbers. It was therefore decided to arrange everything necessary for the catch: to send the assistant Jan Woutersz by joint yacht and the chaloup Peguijn with the first of them, and to engage in seal fishing. Ultimately, by the return of the fleet, another party for the Patria could be assembled, to defray the heavy expenses of the Company here.

And because it would require less men to be taken from the passing ships to strengthen our garrison here, which will ultimately be quite weakened by the sending of people, as this will necessarily require at least 28 to 30 people, it is therefore still possible without taking men from our garrison and to stave off the illness that has arisen, it has been decided to stop making bricks (over 20 men) for the next week, and for this season only to fire the small oven; To employ some of the people involved in seal fishing or other necessary work, as it would be impossible to keep it going with such a small force. And to raise more, which would be displeasing to the Honourable Lords General and Councillors of India in Batavia and would be especially costly for the King and Queen, as well as the heavy taxation of this place, notwithstanding that the King and Queen would be of good service here by doing so, especially in agriculture, etc.

Gijsbert Andriesz van Langesont arrived here on the ship Salmander on 10 August 1653 for 11 guilders. the month, which for some time since the departure of the former boss in the forest has been used here over the woodcutters and sawyers and his service for that has been well observed, is in that view also confirmed because of the aforementioned time expiration as boss in the forest, and de novo accepted for 3 years in Comps. service for a reward of 16 guilders. per month, however with the understanding that if the present Commander of this place were to depart earlier, he would be allowed to take his journey to the homeland from India with the return ships (arriving here in the year 1659), as this would shorten his time by only four months, which he was granted to maintain his good diligence, as well as the common salary of sixteen guilders a month, to commence on the 10th of August, the day after his first banishment expired.

Thus done and resolved at the Fort of Good Hope on the date and year as before.
