Eighth Council (to take all necessary measures against this) for the well-being of this Colony and the support of this garrison, in his E. letter of the 7th of May of this year, the Heemraaden ordered Stellenbos and Draackensteijn to order that they should send 100 men from the inhabitants there, including 20 horses, all well armed and equipped, properly distributed among their officers, as soon as possible to this Castle to be relieved by an equal number of the same inhabitants within 14 days, in order to ensure proper service from them, as well as from the citizens of this Taeffel Valley, during these French rumours. enjoy.91 Then, while one could also conclude from the aforementioned advice that the time when the enemy might have had all eyes on this our government had passed: And furthermore, one considers that this march, which has now lasted for some time, was costly to the said freemen, and as a result also caused the agriculture to deteriorate: So, after deliberation, and at their immediate request, the aforementioned are the Honourable and E. Aghtb. The Council has agreed to release the aforementioned citizens and residents provisionally and in accordance with the order, and subsequently to permit them to return home with express orders, nevertheless, to transport them properly to this Castle at any time (if necessary) at the first notice of the court.92
