English translation

In the presence of all the members, except the administrator Sr. Andries de Man,56 assuming the E.E. Commander and Vice Commander, provided that the rear admiral and other skippers of the returning return fleet Conink William, the three Croonen, Berkel, Vosmaar, 's Lands Welvaren, d' Crab and Meresteijn demptis the skipper of 't Huijs in Loo and the fiscal of the return fleet.

It was demonstrated to Her Honor Governor in Rade how this was done by Her Highness Edlns. in Batavia in her last writings, dated ulto. November of the past year 1694, with this present return fleet, sailed from the port of Batavia on the 2nd and 25th of December and arrived here on the 26th and 27th of February, also on the 3rd and 12th of this month. We were therefore advised not to delay them unnecessarily, but, after having received refreshments and other necessary provisions, to depart for one or two days at the end of this month, unless otherwise agreed,57 to undertake their further journey to Europe, without having to wait for the non-appearance of the Ceylon or other ships. And considering that all these ships, according to their necessities for the voyage, with the consultation of the broad ship's council, had not been able to be equipped or prepared for this until the 5th of the following April: Therefore, in his opinion, your Honor and this Honourable Eighth Council, assuming the said broad ship's council, having carefully considered and considered that which was most beneficial to the Honourable Company and to the well-being of this present return fleet, after careful deliberation and discussion of matters, it has been unanimously decided that the fleet should sail against the aforementioned April 5th at the latest, and without any delay, was required to ensure that, in the event of the non-appearance of the Ceylon ships, they could then continue their journey to the homeland. However, with the understanding that, should it happen that these Ceylon ships should appear here before or on the aforementioned April 5th, the departure of this fleet would then be postponed for one to six days, so that it could be brought along in a state of travel progress throughout the day and night, so that it could ultimately undertake its journey from this bhai to the homeland together and in company.

Furthermore, with this E.Agtb. The petition of the French, who had come from the conquered fortress of Pondecherij and were deployed on this fleet, was also examined,58 tendering the possibility of some plunder being provided. This was mentioned in the letter to Her Highness, and was also sent to us. She was subsequently granted some looting materials, etc., to be placed under the care of her lieutenant and properly distributed by him.

Finally, the deceased widow of the chief merchant Cornelis Timmermans, at her request, was also permitted to travel with her son to the homeland on the ship Meresteijn.59

Thus arrested and confined in the Castle of Good Hope at the date and time as above.
