The Honorable Governor, having presented to the meeting how one of the Royal Dutch Company officers stationed there, along the country road from Saldaigne Bay, had reported to him last night that a two-masted vessel had recently come to anchor there, having lost the largest of the two, with 20 to 22 guns and apparently 16 guns, claiming to have recently departed from Barmudes, and marked the aforementioned The vessel was not only of great suspicion to the Honorable Governor and his Council, but also to the English officers of the return ship Succes 90, which was moored here, and after all the probable suspicion it appeared to be a pirate;91 So, after due consultation, largely in the interest of the Honorable Company and the safety of their ships and ports, it was decided unanimously and unanimously to depart thither and to the Saldaignebhaij of the Company. Heer Gouverneur ter vergadering voorgedragen hebbende, hoe hem langs den landweg uijt de Saldaignebhaij door een der E.Comp. dienaren daar posthoudende gisteren avond verslag gedaan is, als dat daar ter rhede onlangs ten anker gekomen was een vaartuijg met twe masten, hebbende den grootsten van dien verloren, met 20 a 22 koppen en na ‘t leek met 16 canon gemonteerd, voorgevende uijt de Barmudes jongst vertrokken te zijn, en gemerkt voors. vaartuijg niet alleen den Ed.Heer Gouverneur en sijnen Rade, maar ook d’ Engelse officieren van ‘t hier ter rhede leggende retourschip Succes 90 heel verdagt en niet anders na alle waarschijnlijke suspicie voorkomt, als dat ‘t wel een zee-rover mogte zijn;91 So is na rijpe raadspleging ten meesten dienste van d’ E.Comp. en gerustheid van derselver schepen en havens goed-gevonden en eenpariger stemme besloten op ‘t spoedigste na derwards en na de Saldaignebhaij af te vairdigen ‘s Comps. hier ter rhede leggende jagt de Tamboer ;92 met ordre om geseide vaartuijg sijn pas of zee-briev af te vorderen, en dien bekomen hebbende, hem herwards door een of twe Comps. dienaren sonder uijtstel op ‘t spoedigste te senden, om van desselvs validiteit bij den Ed. Hr. Gouverneur en sijnen Raad geöordeeld te worden, en hem immiddels in goede versekering en bewaring te nemen, en toe te sien dat hij niet kome t’ ontsnappen; En bij aldien buijten verwagting ‘t volk of gesaghebbers van opgem. vaartuijg mogten weigerig zijn om den geëijschten pas of zee-briev over te geven, of dat sij met gemoede daartoe niet te brengen waren, om met hun vaartuijg onder ‘t geleide van den Tamboer voorn. herward ter Tafelbhaij te komen: So is mede verstaan sonder iemands tegenspreken den schipper van ‘t jagt de Swarte Leeuw , Cornelis Dekker, also IJsbrand Heemskerk, schipper op meergem. jagt Tamboer bescheiden, niet bij de hand is, te gelasten om alle vereijschte zee en krijgsmanschap te gebruijken om opgem. vreemd vaartuijg thans in de Saldaignebhaij ten anker leggende, gewapenderhand en door geweld herwards op te brengen.93
