English translation

In the presence of all the members.

Oelof Berg, by order of the Lords, as contained in their letter dated April 21, 1690,105 having been reinstated in his previous service as lieutenant, to depart for Batavia or Ceylon in that capacity at his discretion, or to remain here at the Cape as a freeman outside that capacity; and he, having consequently requested in Council to be allowed to remain here for 7 to 8 months, or until the arrival of the nearest and expected Ceylon ships, in order to prepare himself for departure to Ceylon in the meantime, with his wife, children, and other family. It is not possible for him to depart there at this time with the present and sailing ship, Goudestein, as the petitioner is housed here, owns land, and moreover has many matters to settle with this and that person, and therefore cannot prepare himself at a moment's notice. Therefore, after due consultation and unanimous consent, his request was granted, provided that his salary will be debited from the European Company until his departure.

Thus arrested and confined in the Castle of Good Hope on the date and year as above.
