The Rev. Hr. Commander, having announced to the meeting the arrival of the Ceylon return ship Saamslag, having arrived eight degrees south of his comrades Nierop and Spierdijk on their onward journey, and giving consideration to how best to proceed in accordance with our Lordships' orders, and primarily in the service of the Rev. Comp. The further expectation was that both Batavian and Ceylon return ships would continue their journey to the homeland after the latter's departure. It was unanimously agreed, with the welcomed advice of the E. Administrator, Andries de Man, to combine them into a fleet, and not to depart in file, but simultaneously, in order to be in a better position to defend themselves in the event of an enemy attack. We are accordingly directed to comply with the order contained in her Honourable High Estimate's letter of 6 October 1688,37 and all the more so because we are unaware that it is granted by a final letter to the Commander of the return fleet, entrusted to her High Estimate.
Furthermore, the Honourable High Estimate has The commander reported to the meeting how the Namaqua and Grigriqua Hottentots had approached the Elephant River within fifty crals, intending to wage war on the Caab Hottentots situated near the Saldaigne Bay. It was unanimously agreed upon by Sergeant Hans Jurgen Kling, along with his previous troops and another three or four men stronger, after leaving his old post, to keep a watchful eye on the aforementioned Namaquas and their allies and to make them understand that they, the Hottentots, under the protection of the Commander, will be allowed to remain unmolested and in peace, otherwise they would be forced to attack them with armed force and drive them out by force.
Thus arrested and confined in the Castle of Good Hope on the date and year as above.

Commandeur, hebbende ter vergadering bekend gemaakt d’ ankomst van ‘t Ceijlonse retourschip Saamslag , op acht graden suijder breedte van sijn makkers Nierop en Spierdijk op hun herward reis afgeraakt, en gevende t’ overwegen hoe men best in conformité onser Heeren Meesteren ordres, en ten meesten dienste van d’ E.Comp. de verdere verwagte so Bataviase als Ceijlonse retour-schepen der laatste besending hun reis na ‘t vaderland soude doen vervorderen: So is eenparig verstaan met ingenomen advijs van den E. administrateur, Andries de Man, deselve in een vloot gecombineerd, en niet a la file, maar te gelijk te laaten vertrekken, om bij vijandlijke attaque in beter staat van weerbieding te konnen zijn: rigtende ons in gevolge van dien na d’ ordres in haar Ed.Ho.Achtb. briev van den 6 October 1688 vervat,37 en des te meer dewijl ons onbewust is ‘t gunt door een beslôte briev an den Commandeur der retourvloot bij haar welgemde. Edle. Hoog Achtb. belast is.
Verders heeft d’ Ed. Hr. Commandeur ter vergadering verslag gedaan, hoe de Namaquase en Grigriquase Hottentots wel in de vijftig cralen stark tot an d’ Elephantsrivier genaderd waren, in voornemen en onder bedreiging de Caabse Hottentots, omtrent de Saldaignebhaij gelegen, te willen beöorlogen, oversulx is eenstemmig verstaan den sergt. Hans Jurgen Kling, nevens sijn vorige manschap, en nog drie a vier koppen starker, na sijn oude post af te vairdigen,38 met ordre een wakend oog op de voors. Namaquas en haar bondgenoten te houden en haar te doen anseggen dat se, de Hottentots, onder de bescherming van d’ E.Comp. staande, sullen hebben ongemoeijd en in vrede te laten sitten: opdat men andersins haar gewapenderhand gehouden sal zijn an te tasten, en geweld met geweld te verdrijven.
Aldus geärresteerd en besloten in ‘t Casteel de Goede Hoop ten dage en jaare als boven.
