After reading the sermon this morning, without the slightest hindrance, according to Christian custom, the third apology was passed from the deceased persons Jan Woutersz van Middelburgh, assistant currently modest in this fortress, and Catharina Antonis, born of Zalegon in Bengal, former slave of d' E. Hr. Caspar van den Boogaerden, Extraordinary Councillor of India and Commander of this year's return fleet, and by His Eminence granted full liberty at their request, furthermore, it having occurred to us nothing by which they might be delayed or prevented in their intentions, it has been understood by the Council, following our resolution of the 26th of April, to allow the further solemnization of the Trouw to proceed in the Name of the Lord, and to that end it has also been approved that everything might proceed lawfully, with good order, and to God's greatest glory, the said solemnization (as well as having no preacher) by the guide Roeloff de Man, Secrets. of our Council, for the same and all the people, to have it served in the open Council Chamber, as then, after the end of the Sunday Christian service, the reading of the sermon in the Name of the Lord is legally performed and effectuated in public.
Thus done in the Fort of Good Hope, date as above.
