In the presence of all the members, except the E.C. administrator Andries de Man, Berg, Van der Stel, and Blum. Assumpto skipper Jan Bapta, Groeneveld.
Having informed the E.C. Commendatore and Councillor that the whistle "Baren" is now sailing and all arrangements are made, and that it cannot be held up here without great expense at the expense of the E.C. Company, it has been decided to have that bottom chosen as soon as possible, most advantageous to the E.C. Company, under the following course and sailing order.
First, having reached eight to ten miles south of Cape Agullas, we will have sailed east to approximately four hundred to four hundred and fifty miles, and that on the 35th to 36th degree. Estimate the southern latitude, adjust if the weather and wind permit, and from there head northeast to ensure a westerly course to sail to the island of Diego Rodrigues.
And because it is essential for those sailing to Mauritius to come within sight of the aforementioned island, the skipper was authorized, if God's wind and weather permit, to approach it to see if any supplies of amber or other crops for the Egyptian Company might be reached there.
Secondly, having sighted or touched the aforementioned island, Mauritius should be sailed with a westerly course. There, having unloaded supplies and loaded others, they should proceed northwest without delay. To proceed a second westward, to reach the northern end of Madagascar, and then, as far as possible, along its west coast to its southernmost corner and into St. Augustine Bay; and having accomplished and negotiated everything to the greatest advantage of the East India Company, they will sail westward to the Bay of La Goa, and after having sounded its depth, sighted the island, the mainland and its crops, fruits, and merchandise, finally return back to Table Bay.
Thus arrested and confined in the Castle of Good Hope. Year and date as above.

D’ E.Heer Commendeur en Rade bekend gemaakt hebbende hoe ‘t fluijtje Baren nu seilrede en van alles versien legt, en dat ‘t selve niet sonder grote onkosten ten laste van d’ E.Comp. hier vrugteloos opgehouden kan werden, So is verstaan dien bodem op ‘t spoedigste ten meesten dienste van d’ E.Comp. onder de volgende cours en seilaas ordre zee te laten kiesen.
Eerstelijk acht a thien mijlen besuijden de Caap d’ Agullas gekomen zijnde, sullen de cours oost an tot dat omtrent vierhonderd a 450 vertierd hebben, en dat hun op de 35 a 36 gr. suijder breedte gissen, bij toelating van weer en wind anstellen, en daar van daan Noord Oost an stevenen om versekerd te blijven met een Westelijke gang ‘t eijland Diego Rodrigues te konnen beseilen.
En dewijl ‘t een noodsaaklijkheid is voor diegene die na Mauritius gaan, ‘t opgemelte eijland in ‘t gesigt te lopen, werd de schipper geauctoriseerd, indien Gods wind en weer ‘t toelaat, ‘t selve an te gieren om te sien of aldaar enige voordeelen van ambar of andere gewassen voor d’ E.Comp. te bereiken mogten wesen.
Ten tweden dit voors. eijland in ‘t gesigt gekregen of angedaan hebbende, dient Mauritius met een westelijke gang beseijld te werden, alwaar de behoeftigheden gelost en andere geladen hebbende, sullen sonder tijd versuijm N.ten W.ten. een twede Weste angaan, om ‘t Noordeind van Madagascar te bereiken, en vervolgens soveel als mogelijk sal wesen, desselvs West-cust langs lopen tot den Suijdlijksten hoek en in de baij St. Augustijn toe; en alles ten meesten profijte van d’ E. Comp. verrigt en verhandeld hebbende, sullen de Baij de la Goa met een weste cours bestevenen, en na dat desselvs diepte bepeild, ‘t eijland besigtigd, ‘t vasteland en desselvs gewassen, vrugten en koopmanschappen bemagtigd hebben, eijndelijk herwards na de Tafelbaij keeren.46
