The Commander of this fortress having sailed aboard the ship Arnhem; as well as the subsequent resolution of yesterday evening, having the bowsprit of the aforementioned ship inspected more closely, not only by the ship's timbers, but also by the skippers and the other naval officers of the common ship and galley Nightglass, and having found by the same that the common bowsprit could still be fitted with cheeks and hulls in such a way that it would be able to hold out to Batavia, as is the case with the aforementioned. The Commander and ship's authorities, after careful deliberation and proper consultation, respectively determined and decided to have the bowsprit properly fitted with cheeks, as described above, in order to also cause less waste of time, which, by installing a new one, would be free to elapse, and the voyage to India would be bravely delayed, as well as consequently remaining frustrated to serve again this year as a return ship to the homeland, where (arriving early in Batavia) it apparently could well be employed, especially since the E. Commander Kemp225 with the ship Amersfoort, as well as the ships Salmander and West Vriesland, have not yet thundered on, are indeed full of sickness and will therefore be in need of assistance. Refreshment of the same is still to be laid here in a good state of repair.
Thus done and resolved in the Fort of Good Hope on the day and year of the month.
