To the designated and now already appointed fiscal of this Commandment, Mr. Joannes van Ceulen95, after the ordinary evening prayer in Rade, to make a proposal how he, in the said capacity, had been accepted by the Honorable Gentlemen Majores at the meeting of the 17th and arrived in this country as a follower and had already begun to establish his ministry, with the request that his Honorable Gentlemen be shown a suitable residence for him and his family, such as his predecessors of the Company had enjoyed; to which he was first replied, both inside and outside the Castle of the Company. no residence was available, to which he added in his previous request that he had been informed that the sick visitor and schoolmaster of this location was planning to leave for Batavia with his family within a few days, and that the residence, if not absolutely, could be provisionally made available to him until the arrival of the Commander, or until a more suitable location could be assigned to him; but consider that the aforementioned residence, designated by the High Honorable Hendrick Adriaen van Reede, Lord of Mijdrecht & Co., representing the meeting of the 17th as Commissioner, has been appointed as a residence for the schoolmaster to hold the school there, and we do not consider ourselves qualified to do so. to dispense with the order, but on the contrary, they are obligated to comply with it in full to the best of their ability. However, on his E.'s great authority, and that in private matters no residence can be obtained, and that it must nevertheless be under cover, to accommodate him as much as possible, and on the other hand to remain outside reproach, it has been approved by his E. to vacate half of the residence, without prejudice to the fact that the schoolmaster, who will be placed there in place of the one about to depart, will enjoy the other half for himself and for the running of the school, and all this until further approval by the Commander when his E. returns.
Thus done and resolved in the Castle of Good Hope, date above.
