English translation

At 4 p.m.,

This afternoon, the French ship La Roijale, arriving here on April 21st, departed from Port Louis, intending to sail directly from here to Surat. The lieutenant of the ship La Roijale appeared on shore here, requesting assistance in the name of Mr. Pillaudine, who was also sailing there as designated director of its East India Company. in Souratte, that she, like all nations, might be admitted unrefusally and granted permission to fetch fresh water here, and also to buy some refreshment from the citizens, and to allow her impotent people to come ashore to refresh themselves, as well as to the Director, who is also weak and impotent, to refresh himself with his family at one of the citizens, which would then be carefully deliberated upon, and especially in view of the recently received order of her Highness Ed. in the Fatherland, stipulating that all foreign European nations, being in alliance with our state, will by no means refuse to fetch water and purchase some refreshments from the citizens, but will agree in polite terms and furthermore show them all outward courtesy to keep them out of complaints.89 It is approved and understood that the aforementioned French friends will fully benefit from the effect of their request, as this will not in any way prejudice or disadvantage the European Union.

Thus done and resolved in the Castle of Good Hope, date above.
