In the evening, coming ashore, the skipper and the sub-merchant of the ship Arnhem accompanied by the skipper of the galley 't Nachtglas, together with all its ship's carpenters. They informed us that the bowsprit of the ship had been broken in two places in such a way that they feared that the upcoming voyage to Batavia would not be possible. Therefore, the council of this fortress was fortified with the aforementioned chiefs, with the understanding that early the next morning the common... To have the bowsprit inspected more closely in the presence of the Commander (to sail aboard) not only by the carpenters of the aforementioned ship, but also by those of the land and the aforementioned galiot, who were therefore also given orders to do so this evening while sailing aboard.

’s Avonts aen lant comende den schipper en de ondercoopman van ‘t schip Arnhem g’accompagneert metten schipper van ‘t galijot ‘t Nachtglas neffens alle der selver scheepstimmerluijden, ende ons aendienende dat de boeghspriet van do. schip op 2 plaetsen soodanigh gebroocken bevonden hadden, dat se vreesden daermede d’ aenstaende reijse na Batavia niet wel souden cunnen doen &a., soo is bij den Raedt deser fortresse versterckt met de voorsz opperhooffden verstaen op morgen vroegh de gem. boeghspriet in presentie van den Commandeur (daer toe aen ‘t boort te varen) eens wat nader te laten Visiteeren: niet alleen door de timmerluijden van ‘t verhaelde schip maer oock door die van ‘t lant ende voorsz galijot, welcke derhalven desen avont mede na boort varende daer toe ordre gegeven sijn.
Aldus gedaen ende geresolveert in ‘t Fort de Goede Hoope ten dage ende jare als boven.
