English translation

By resolution of the 10th of this month, the Batavian return ships, after those from Ceylon and the Romeijn from Bengal, were arrested not to be detained here any longer than until the 20th of this month. In the meantime, the Ceylon return ships Silversteijn, Coeverden, and Langewijck arrived here safely on the 11th and 13th of the current month, and, together with the other return ships, were prepared to undertake their patriotic voyage at the more preferred time of the 24th of the current month. On the hired ship, the Romeijn from Bengal, this morning, as we intended to give the return ships their dispatch, they would also arrive here. So it was decided by the Honourable. Mr. Ordinary Council and Commissioner Van Goens proposed that, for the greater security of the Company's realm containing the freight shipments amounting to ƒ420,616.6, our previous resolution should not be delayed to such an extent and the fleet's departure delayed long enough for the vessel to depart from here, especially since the skipper is expected to be ready within four, or at the latest five, days. This proposal having been carefully deliberated upon, all members of this meeting unanimously confirmed their honorary proposal. Meanwhile, all reasonable steps will be taken to reach that bottom in time, so that the fleet, with suitable weather and wind, will be able to set sail before the end of this month, when the order of the High Government of India regarding the fleet as a whole has been fulfilled.

Thus done, arrested, and resolved in the Comps. house of Rustenburgh at Cabo de Boa Esperance, on the day, month, and year as before. Signed by order of the Noble Commissioner of Goens, Gillis Borremans, 52 Ete. Approved by Caep de Goede Hoope, 29 March 1685, Gillis Borremans, E. Clercq.
