English translation

Regarding the skipper of the returning ship Oostenburgh, named Jan Speelman, who, in the harsh weather at the southern latitude of 34 degrees 55 m, was stranded there, missing its sails and apparently perished, and was subsequently replaced by the second skipper from Alcmaar, named Jan Salomonsz, who died a few days after his arrival here, once again depriving him of a fit head. It was therefore decided to fill the vacant position with a fit sailor, the skipper of the aforementioned remaining ship, Christoffel de Vosch, nominated for this purpose and appointed on good evidence.

The former wife of the Lord and Mr. Daniel Heijns,9 a former member of the public. Council of Justice of Casteels Battavia and at least on the night of the present return fleet, named Isabella Maria van Veen, addressing her upon request to this meeting, stating that she will be transported during the journey from Battavia to here on the return ship Oostenburgh, on which you are presently informed and ordered by the high government to Batavia was affected by many indignities and impertinent treatment, which, in all reasonableness, when separated from here, continued to increase, we have accepted her request to be allowed to transfer to the return ship 'Het Wapen van Alcmar'.

Taking into consideration that most of the return ships, especially Oostenburgh, will still require quite a bit of carpentry and repair before the bottoms can be brought into complete readiness, as the making of the bolts and other ice work will take most of the time, so that according to all appearances at the earliest 14 days will be necessary before the ships can be brought into complete readiness, and since the usual time has already elapsed that far, the aforementioned is arrested. Return ships should not be detained any longer than until the 15th of the coming month. In the hope that Vice-Commander Cansius10 will appear with the Burgh van Leijde[n] in the meantime, to depart from here together with the fleet, which, given the current constitution of times, is very convenient for the service of the General Company.

The skipper of the admiral's ship the Ridderschap van Hollandt, named Jacob Cool, having requested four iron cannons in Council, each firing 8 lb. of ball, to further defend his ship, has been permitted to take them over from the present flute ship the Cryghsman, destined for Battavia.

Thus resolved in the Castle of Good Hope, dated 11/04/2018.
