The Commander, having informed the Council of the situation, informed him that at the location where the English ship the Joanna was wrecked east of the Cape last June, not far from shore, there would be some cash lying about, which could easily be recovered and obtained. Therefore, on his advice, it was deemed advisable to send 5 or 6 people there today to make inquiries and, if necessary, to attempt to salvage and return them.
Thus arrested at the Castle of Good Hope, date above.

De Heer Commandeur den Raadt hebbende g’communiceert hoe dat sijn E. van ter zeijden was g’informeert dat ter plaetse, alwaer ‘t Engelse schip d’ Joanna in de maent Junij jonghstleeden b’oosten de Caap is comen te verongelucken, niet verre van de wal noch eenige contanten soude leggen, die bequaemelijck soude connen werden opgedoocken en gecreegen, weshalven op sijn E. voorstell, goet gevonden is de novo 5 a 6 persoonen derwaerts te zenden om daer naer te inquireren en bij bevindinge, is ‘t doenlijck, trachten te salveeren en herwaerts te brengen.
Aldus g’arresteert in ‘t Casteel de Goede Hoop, datum ut supra.
