Taking into consideration the special vigilance and exertions of the salesman of this garrison, Oloff Bergh, and the people who have been involved in seeking and acquiring considerable quantities of cash,27 to the amount of over ƒ29,000 besides other goods washed ashore and surfaced from the cargo of the unfortunate English ship d’Joanna, which sailed east of the Cape in the month of June last, gr. that they, as far as we know, have come to bear their burdens there, as honest people, it has been deemed appropriate to award them for their faithful services, namely:
To the salesman Oloff Bergh the sum of one hundred Rdrs. and a pipe.
To the assistant Aernout Calcoen: ƒ100 each
To the sergeant Christoffel Henningh[^28]
To the corps of midshipmen Hans Jurgen[^29]
To the assistant Aernout Calcoen: ƒ100 each
To the sergeant Christoffel Henningh[^30]
To the corps of midshipmen Hans Jurgen[^31]
Sincerely, to the common soldiers: 6 Rdrs. each. and a half aem aracq, provided that one of them who first discovered the money chest will receive 12 Rdrs.
To which each is given a reasonable recognition pro rata for their past actions.
In addition, the Company's warehouses hold a consignment of goods which, due to their unwillingness, have remained in hand for a long time without being able to be sold, and have become corrupted and suffocated. This, if continued, will be entirely to the Company's detriment. It has therefore been deemed appropriate to publicly sell the aforementioned spoiled goods to the highest bidder, preferably the Company. nor [i]nly benefits from it, except that it becomes worthless by continuing to do so.
Thus resolved in the Castle of Good Hope, dated the sup.

Aengesien bij ‘s Comp. packhuijsen sijn berustende een parthij goederen die door haar onwilligheijt lange tijt vruchteloos, sonder verkocht te connen werden, sijn aen de handt gebleeven en gemotteert en verstickt sijn geraeckt, sulcx bij langer leggen, d’ Comp. t’ eenemael tot schaaden sullen blijven aan de handt houden, Soo is goet gevonden d’ voorn. bedorven goederen publicq aen de meest biedende te doen vercoopen, beeter sijnde dat d’ Comp. noch [i]jts daer van profiteert als dat deselve door langer leggen niets waerdigh comen te worden.
