The free shoemaker, Barent Cornelis Backer,26 presented the Company with a considerable sum in return for the cattle hides he had acquired, which he had received successively from the Company. provided, without any appearance that the Company will ever meet its guarantee, due to his irregular and disrupted life, and considering that he now has the flurry of boats for his account. from the island of Mauritius has received a good consignment of prepared hartebeest and goat skins, which until now have remained sequestered under the Company. It has therefore been deemed appropriate to assist the Company in this by accepting the aforementioned prepared hartebeest and goat skins for the Company according to the valuation appointed by express commissioners, namely: 1 hartebeest hide for ƒ3; 1 goat skin for ƒ2. Den vrijschoenmaeker, Barent Cornelis Backer,26 present aen de Comp. noch een merckelijcke somma ten achteren staande over rouwe genoote beestehuijden, hem successive van de Comp. verstreckt, sonder dat sigh apparentie vertoont, dat de Comp. oijt aan haer guarant sal comen, door sijn ongeregeleert en gedebaucheert leeven, en aen gesien den selven nu met ‘t fluijtie Baeren voor sijn reeke. van ‘t eijlandt Mauritius heeft ontfangen een goede partij bereijde harte en bocke vellen die tot noch toe onder d’ Comp. sijn gesequesteert gebleeven, Soo is goet gevonden om de Comp. aen ‘t haeren te helpen, de voornoemde bereijde harte en bocken vellen voor d’ Comp. aen te neemen volgens d’ taxatie door expresse gecommitteerdens op gestelt, namentlijck: 1 hartebeestehuijt tot ƒ3; 1 bockevel tot ƒ2. Sullende d’ Comp. daer bij geen schaaden comen te leijden, als aen de vrijschoenmakers voor die prijs rijckelijck sullende connen gedebiteert werden.
