English translation

Having reported to the meeting by the Commander-in-Chief how a certain Hottentot some time ago had been so disposed by his E. that he had promised to dispose of some of the Namacquase nations here, for which purpose he had gone to their villages and now yesterday returned from the country again with the news that he had discovered some of the aforementioned nations (among them 3 or 4 of the most respectable of them) among the Gieregicquas,45 another kind of Hottentot, to whom the aforementioned Namacquas had come from their country, because of the gifts given them by the aforementioned. Hottento, bestowed by Gieregicquas, and received from us for that purpose, which, upon his request, he had given in reply to transport her hither in his company, since never before had d'Cape been in possession of this place for so long, so unconscious was our manner of conduct to them, and they were hesitant to do so on such an uncertain footing. to come to us, with this addition: in the event we should send any of our own men there to guide them, they would then come to us, provided that this had to happen as quickly as possible, or else they were of the opinion to return to their country within a few days, having in mind the aforementioned. Hottento, on his departure,46 handed over a few pieces of copper, just as in the region where they withdrew from the mountains, to be shown to us here, and marked by the aforementioned. Namacquas, according to all appearances, will learn what has so far remained hidden from us, which is at the service of the Company. is particularly situated, so it was resolved to send Sargeant Jan Hampe with 12 men there as soon as possible to capture the foreland. "Namacquase afgesant[en] to be brought here."47

Taking into consideration the shameful and infamous domestic conduct of two families, one a Timorese housewife and the other a certain freed slave named Catarijn, where the slaves of the Company, as private individuals, are known to transport them at certain set times and give their bodies over entirely to all detestable carnal pleasures and allow them to be used by Europeans, even unashamed to indulge their filthy lusts in public, and since it is neither permitted nor should be tolerated, it has been deemed appropriate to designate the aforementioned two as taxable persons of this residence. to inspect houses whenever he deems such a thing reasonable, and if any Europeans are found there, to point them out for the first time and simultaneously warn them to refrain from doing so. However, if they are found there a second time, to apprehend them to be punished for the matter. However, according to the regulations for women or slaves, if any are found there, they are immediately put in custody to be punished for it.48

Thus arrested and resolved at the Castle of Good Hope, date of issue.
