It was noted and deliberated that for this purpose some lands inland were granted on loan for a certain period of years to some of these free colonists, whereby those people were deprived of the desire to properly cultivate and oversee those lands, especially as they were preserved with the servitude of having to annually pay a tithe thereof to the Compe., as a result of which many, towards the end of the appointed time, left the land uncultivated and came to a complete halt in cultivation, for fear that the Compe. it will come to be accepted and they will consequently remain frustrated from the benefits that they themselves should fairly have derived from it, which is nevertheless contrary to the intention of the Company, besides the fact that it is detrimental for the Company to accept and manage such lands, as the numerous examples clearly indicate; Therefore, it has been agreed that all arable lands previously granted to these citizens under such conditions will be granted to them in full ownership, and also to all those who may henceforth request it, except for the lands located in Taffelvalij, with the restriction, however, that if they are left uncultivated and not properly cultivated, and we have been duly informed of this, the land will then be confiscated and given to someone else who becomes more active in arable farming, without the first owner being able to reserve the slightest right to it or claim any rights whatsoever.
In Raade, a certain project for a residence at a certain place called the Cuijle, located halfway between Hottentot Holland and the Cape, was exhibited. Taking into consideration that, in the presence of the Honourable Ordinary Councilor Dircq Blom, a resolution dated …230 established that the currently unbuilt cortijn should be covered with a lean-to for the storage of the artillery, while noting the modesty of the residence in the castle for the officials and that another suitable location for this purpose has already been considered.231 It is therefore considered good for the aforementioned. to build a suitable dwelling on the spot, intended to serve as residences for the qualified ministers, as well as for the respective accounting and armory, but since the place is 18 feet wide on one side and only 15 feet on the other, it was deemed best to prevent irregularities, as well as the fact that no suitable dwelling could be built within the width, except that the difference in costs would consist solely in the end walls and planks, and that the work in the back of the costs would not be noteworthy, since the beams of sufficient length could be obtained, the carpentry of the said dwelling on the width of 24 to understand the outer width of the Lord Commander's residence, which will then correspond in its entirety to the outer width of the Lord Commander's residence.
One Jacob van Leeuwen, former assistant in the service of the E. Aengesien d’ retourvlooth altans t’ eenemaal is ververst en in staat gebracht om de reijs na ‘t lieve vaderlant te ondernemen, mitsgaders den E.Hr.Commissaris alle saacken sijn commissie toucheerende nu ten eijnde heeft gebracht, soo veel als eenighsints moogelijck is geweest, Soo is met eenpaarigheijt g’arresteert d’ gesamentlijcke retourscheepen aenstaende Donderdagh, wesende den 28 deser loopende maant, weer en wint des toelaatende in Goodes name de reijs na ‘t Patria te laten ondernemen.
In consideratie genoomen dat bij ‘t aen wesen van den E.Hr.Ordinaris Raat Dircq Blom bij resolutie onder dato …230 is vast gestelt de nogh onbeboude cortijn een afdack tot berginge van de artellerij te betimmeren, dogh daar tegens aengemerckt d’ soberheijt der wooninghe in ‘t casteel voor de officianten en dat reets een andre bequaame gelegentheijt daar toeis231 uijt gesien, Soo is goet gevonden ter voors. plaatse een bequaam woonhuijs te timmeren om als geseght te dienen tot woonhuijsen van de gequalificeerts[t]e ministers als mede voor d’ respective comptoire en wapencamer, dogh vermits die plaats aan ‘t eene 18 en ‘t andre ent maar 15 voeten breeten begrijpt, is raatsaamste geoordeelt om de irregulariteijt voor te coomen, als mede dat geen bequame wooninge in de breete soude cunnen gebout werden, behalven dat ‘t verschil der oncosten eenelijck in de eijndelmuren232 en plancken soude bestaan dat ‘t werck in ‘t ruguart van de oncosten niets naemwaardighs soude verswaaren, overmits d’ balcken van genoegsaame lengthe te bekoomen sijnde, d’ timmeragie van voor gemelte wooninge op d’ breete van 24 voeten buijtenswerck te begrijpen ‘t welck dan in dier voegen sal accordeeren met d’ buijtenste breete van des Heere Commandeurswooningh.
