English translation

The Honorable Sir Sijbrant Abbama,149 Councillor Extraordinary of India, Admiral of the present return fleet and Commissioner of this residence, having proposed and presented to the meeting how the Honorable Sir Simon van der Stel, Commander of this residence had requested his Honor, before accepting cession in this Council, it could be considered whether His Honor or the Honorable Sir Andries Bogaart, Vice Admiral of the present return fleet and outgoing Governor in Banda, would preside in Council, wherefore His Honor. as there is a relationship with the said E.Hr.Boogaert, it has150 been referred to the approval and judgement of the other members of the Council and having left the meeting thereon, the other members took into consideration and note how in the year 1670, when the Noble.Hr.Mattheus van den Broeck, Ordinary of the Council of India and at one time co-Commissioner of this Commandment, his Vice Admiral Lord . . . Sloot,151 former Major in Batavia, had been delegated the chairmanship above the then Hr.Commander Borghorst, in addition to which it was noted that the said Hr.Bogaert was in India the Compa. As the Governor and Director has served for many years, and during his presence in Batavia, the youngest Councillor Extraordinaire has always been second in rank, it has been agreed upon to grant the presidency and rank to the Honourable Mr. Boogaert, without prejudice to the respect for the Honourable Commander, without prejudice to the fact that this example may be drawn in any way by others in the future.

Thus arrested in the Castle of Good Hope, date above.
