English translation

Today in the council of this fortress (fortified with the skippers and crew of the ships Oliphant, and the Arms of Holland) having been represented by the chiefs of the aforementioned ship Malacca: that the sea was quite leaky, such that all glasses (being at sea) had to pump over a thousand gauges, and therefore made it difficult to proceed from here to sea alone, and since it is not known which of the other two ships would be best allowed to remain with the aforementioned Malacca without the slightest harm, it is understood that all three of the aforementioned ships will arrive together in company on Sunday. to depart: since it is only the 7th day of the Wapen van Holland, the 9th day of the Elephant, and the 10th day of Malacca's arrival, and therefore all of us are not yet ready and properly refreshed. Which will therefore also be obliged to remain with the other all the way to Batavia, inclusive: if it were found that the Oliphant or the Wapen van Hollant, one of both was sailing so sparingly that the other, with Malacca, would be noticeably shortened in the speed of the voyage, in which case, then, with due consideration of advice or any other certain signal, a separation may be made from the weakest sailor, but in any case one must remain with the ship Malacca: in order to be able to assist her of great importance in case of overcrowding, at least as far as St. Paulo or Amsterdam 183, in order there (if better weather arrives) to consult with the other or to sail from that place to Batavia. Each also his best may offer or not offer without any price.

And since the aforementioned Mallacca is loaded with 10 chests of gold and the elephant has no more than 2, making a total of 12, it has been understood that, in order not to leave the majority of the capital on the leakiest ship, the 12 chests will be divided over 2 bottoms and, accordingly, 4 chests will be transferred from Malacca to the elephant, so that each ship can sail to Batavia with 6 chests, thus minimizing the risk to the East Indies.

And since it has been resolved as aforesaid that the ships arriving until Sunday will remain here for the reasons stated, and that there are no cattle or sheep here to give the people to the cove and the other vegetable plots, and furthermore it has been considered that since the galley the Roode Vos will remain in the bay of Zaldanha for a long time, there will apparently be a good trade of cattle and sheep there: it has been decided to let all three large boats of the aforesaid ships make a trip to the common, under the watchful eye of the chief pilot of the galley the Tulp, named Tijmon Egbertsz (known to this waterway). As we affirm, it can be arranged in 3 to 4 days to fetch some animals and sheep from there, and if necessary, to load the same boats with as many fresh birds and eggs (of which there should be plenty) as can be brought along, so that the crew can get enough refreshments along with the fish and vegetables. To this end, they can also be given their departure this evening, so that they can return sooner.

Thus done and resolved at Fort de Goede Hoope on the date and year as above.
