The freeman Jacob Arentsz Brouwer90, in the presence of the Noble.Hr. Ordinary Council Dirck Blom, stood in meeting and requested that he be given back three such draught animals as those of his late wife's first husband, named Claas Jacobsz van Meldorp,91 which had been massacred in the country in the year 1673 by the Gonnemase Hottentoots, and had been robbed at the same time, which animals the E.Comp. according to his allegation had stolen that same year during the expedition after the aforementioned. enemy Hottentoots, including the capture of a greater number of animals, without them being returned to his wife or subsequently to him, but subsequently approved and promised by the government, in case the aforementioned animals were found to be hidden under the aforementioned confiscation, that further favorable dispositions would be made in this regard, whereupon it was recently resolutely agreed that the requester would be returned the alleged animals in case of proof, and subsequently today his request was again renewed, as well as having submitted in Rade for verification of this certain certificate from two consonant witnesses, whereby the aforementioned is alleged and that the aforementioned animals would later be handed over to the E.Comp. as if used and retained as their own, there is also sufficient evidence of no restitution or compensation ever being made. It has been agreed that three of these animals will be returned to the same company in satisfaction of the said company, especially for those in need and in need of them.
Thus resolved in the Castle of Good Hope, date above.
