Praesentibus d' Heer Dirck Blom, Council Ordinary of India, d' Heer Jacobus van der Waeijen, Commander of the fleet, d' E.Hendrick Crudop, Chief of the place, Bartholomeus Nouters, Vice Commander of the return fleet ...83 Brakel, coopman and rear admiral, Dircq Jansz Smient, captain here, Matthijs Vonck, skipper of Africa, Jeronimus Cruse and M. van Banchem, political councilors.

In meeting read and summarized is a certain letter from the Lords, the Directors and Plenipotentiary of the Assembly of the Lords Seventeen for secret matters, dated 3 November 1678,84 dictating that in the event the return fleet should be able to land at the Cape either combined or around the same time, that it will likewise have to set off again combined for the Fatherland, provided that this does not take longer than the usual time of three weeks and until at least two or three strong ships may wait together. From which matter it is sufficient to understand that their Honor. intention in principle there strongly[s] to send the return fleet85 from here to the homeland as soon as possible and not to delay its departure; further considering that the usual time as well as the season has already passed quite far and consequently the fleet is expected to reach the homeland late in the year, which will not without reason cause great concern to Our Lords Majores and will make them very anxious after its arrival, which, after all appearances, will not be expected so late, and further noting that the largest part of the fleet can be brought in a position to undertake the voyage within a few days. Thus, according to the aforementioned deliberation, in accordance with her Honor. order86 found good and understood to direct the work there and to put all efforts to have the fleet ready within 4 or 5 days and to let the ships that will then be able to sail, up to 4 or 5 or more in number, weather and wind permitting, depart in combination without stopping one after the other, but in the event after the expiry of the aforementioned. stipulated time, 1 or 2 days not understood, the fleet in the general was brought into that state to put to sea together and the ship Maccasser, at least in the process of repairing, and there was no wind or contrarian, in which case all means and devoirs would be used to get it in shape88 and it is doable with to allow the fleet to leave in combination.

Thus, the date referred to above is arrested in 't Casteel de Goede Hoop.
