'Aen d'E Commander van 't Fort de Goede Hopeende byhagen Raet.172 '
'With due respect to the chiefs of the ship the Crowned Lion, demonstrating how the period of 6 months that elapsed between Patrya and the current voyage, provided that the wintry and the pleasant family returned, consummated all the gray and white remains that were with her on the voyage. which was given as a source of sustenance for the 340 people who consumed it, was not considered to be more than 15 narrow tons of groats, but only for 20 days and could no longer be achieved, and it is noted that since this period has now fallen into a colder climate, the people are all the more hungry, therefore, the groats provide the society's community. will be able to purchase meat and speck every day, thereby reducing consumption. Mrs. ration letter also given will be expendable, to the great detriment of the E. Compe. if in India the speck and meat were of utmost necessity, we therefore address them to syn Ed., reverently noting that the confection E. Hr. Commander, please subsidize the large consumption of special meat by its people with groats or rye for pottage to remove this partner's debt. Which they did.173
Having summarized the aforementioned request, it was deemed appropriate to answer the aforementioned chiefs first, on behalf of the chiefs of this proposed fortress, that it cannot be spared, as it must be provided by the incoming ships themselves, especially with the food that has been in dire straits here from the beginning, and which has not been provisioned for so long. Also, a small amount that might be transferred for 350 men on the ship, being of little help, nevertheless, since, according to the order of the Reverend Mr. General and Council of India: the garrison here will have to be freed up, and half of that, a good portion of the population, will also have to go to Batavia. The aforementioned chiefs are permitted to take 2,000 lbs. of rice from the fort's warehouse.
And regarding the chiefs of the ship "De Draeck," they declare that they cannot or are not allowed to spare anything at all, and therefore, if the ship's victuals touch the country's victuals, they will have to attack them, as often happens.
And as the chief surgeon of this fortress, Matthijs Witsma, remonstrated that a certain person, named Dirck Janse Lyndrayer, had been cured of an impure disease and had promised the former passenger the sum of 44 guilders, which, having no cash, he requested from the petitioner's account, which should be paid and the other person's account should be charged in advance to arrive at the rightful payment. The petitioner's request was granted, and the bookkeeper was ordered to book it in debit form, all of which appears to be in accordance with the law.
Thus done in the Fort de Goede Hope on the date and year as mentioned above.
