Summarized is a certain request of this Council, submitted by or on behalf of the orphan masters of this place, word for word as follows:
To the Rev. Hendrik Crudop, present Chief, and the Rev. Political Council at Cabo de Boa Esperance.
"With due respect, your E.O. servants, the orphan masters of this place, express how they have deemed the petitioners, in accordance with their due duty, reasonable and necessary, to request, in polite terms, the widow of the deceased Noble Governor Joan Bax, the late, to make some payment due to her E.'s condition and specifically, or also, by the aforementioned Noble Governor, a will may have been left to her E., to the end of which she supplemented." the performance of which they entrusted to the President together with a member of her college, who then politely addressed her E. on the matter and presented the matter to her as per her duty, to which the aforesaid widow replied that they were not obliged to make an opening to the orphans in this place because of her condition and presentation of her will, and although the aforementioned separate assurance was given that not so properly did her E. demand a proper opening of her entire estate as such, since her E. was about to leave for Batavia, to the E. Hrn. leaving the orphan masters there deferred, but nevertheless in order that the orphan masters here would not be accused of negligence in their office, therefore specifically desired to see her will and then to pursue the example of the E. orphan masters in Batavia with the departure of the widow of the late Preacher Adrianus de Vooght, but her E. nevertheless remaining disinclined, added to her previous reason that the said orphan masters of the Cape did not consider it competent to properly ventilate her will, about which they, the petitioners, not only consider themselves unsatisfied according to her right, but also injured and curtailed in their office, therefore they supplt. having considered the matter, and seeing that by the strength of her instruction her E. could well demand such from her in the form of proceedings, whilst also taking into consideration the respect her E. deserved because of the character and high esteem with which the Noble Lord Governor her E. late husband was held here, and consequently would not like to molest her E. in the form of legal proceedings, therefore his supplements turn to your E.O., requesting your esteemed advice in this regard, whether with the discharge of that estate or such as your E.O.’s esteemed duties in their wise judgment shall deem appropriate with respect to the office of orphan masters. "Which, in doing so, etc."
Having deliberated upon this, it was decided that, before explaining this further, a copy of this document would be handed over to the late widow of Governor Bax, and that a written response be requested to the Council at the next meeting.
While this meeting was underway, citizen Henningh Huijsen entered, requesting that he and his companion be allowed to have only sheep meat near the fortress at the lb. At the stated price of 3 stuivers, to the garrison and to anyone else who might need more, to sell it every week on the stated day, considering that it serves to accommodate the public, and the old custom has long since fallen into disrepair. It was agreed to grant him this privilege in return, provided he submits to the regulations and ordinances stipulated therein and any further devised, and will be granted provisionally the front of the old 's Comps hospital, now completely out of use.
Thus resolved at Fort de Goede Hoop on the date and year as above.

Heer Gouverneur Joan Bax saliger in beleefde termen af te vorderen eenige openingh wegens haar Es. staat en speciael off oock door gemelde Edle. Heer Gouverneur aan haar E. wel een testament mocht nagelaten zijn, ten welcken eijnde sij supplte. de verrichtingh van dien aan den President nevens een lidt van haar collegie hebben opgedragen, dewelcke dan haar E. diesaangaande met beleeftheijt hebben aangesproocken, en de saack volgens haar plicht voorgestelt, waarop voor gemelde weduwe hen lieden tot antwoort heeft toegevoeght dat oordeelde niet gehouden te wesen aan weesmeesteren deser plaats openingh wegens haar staat en vertooningh van haar testament te doen, en hoewel voors. afgesondere versekerde dat niet soo eijgentlijck haar E. afvorderde[n] een juijste openingh van haaren geheelen boedel als sulcx, vermits haar E. stont na Batavia te vertrecken, aan d’ E. Waarop dan gedelibereert sijnde is verstaan dat alvooren ons hierop nader te verclaaren aan de gedachte vrouw wed. van de Heer Gouverneur Bax. saliger copia deses sal werden ter handt gestelt en daarnevens deselve versocht ter naaster vergaderingh den Raadt van schriftelijck tegenbericht te willen dienen.
Staande dese vergaderingh binnen getreden den borger Henningh Huijsen, versoekende dat hem en sijn compagon mochte werden toegestaen alhier omtrent de fortresse alleen schapenvleijs bij ‘t lb. ten gestelden prijse van 3 stuijvers aan ‘t guarnisoen en wie sulcx meer mochte benodicht wesen, alle weeken ten gestelden dage te verkoopen en aangemerct sulcx tot groote accommodatie van ‘t gemeen is dienende en ‘t oude gebruijck hierin al lange in afgangh geraackt, Soo is verstaan hem daermede tot wederseggens toe te priviligeeren, mits sich onderwerpende soodanige keur en Ordinantie als daarop is gestelt en noch mochte werden beraamt, sullende hem daartoe bij provisie werden vergunt d’ voorkant van ‘t oude ‘s.Comps. hospitaal, thans t’ eenemael buijten gebuijck staande.
