I promise and swear to the illustrious and high-mighty Lords States General of the United Netherlands, my sovereigns, His Highness the Lord Prince of Orange as his Captain Admiral and General, the Lord Directors of the General Netherlands Patented East India Company, the Noble Lord Governor General and Council of India, as well as the Chief and the Council of this place45, to be faithful and loyal, to serve this office of Political Councillor sincerely, the Company. as well as to faithfully uphold the justice and prosperity of this place, not to reveal the secrets of this Council and its contents to anyone, and furthermore to conduct myself as a sincere councilor allows and befits. I will not let this happen, neither out of hatred nor favor from anyone.

Ik beloove ende swere d’ doorluchtige hoogmogende Heeren Staten Generael der Vereenigde Nederlanden, mijne souvereijnen, sijne Hoogheijt den Heere Prince van Orangie als derselver Capitain Admirael en Generael, de Heeren Bewindhebberen van de Generaele Nederlantse g’octroijeerde Oostindische Compa., den Edle.Heer Gouverneur generael en Raden van India mitsgaders het opperhooft en den Raat deser plaatse45 gehouwen getrouw te wesen, dit ampt van Politicque Raadt oprechtelijck te bedienen, ‘s Comps. mitsgaders deser plaats recht en welvaren na behoore[n] getrouwelijck voor te staen, de secreten deses Raadt en wat daarin verhandelt sal worden aan niemandt t’ openbaeren, en mij voorts te gedragen soodanigh als een opregt Raatspersoon toe staen ende betaemt, Dit en sal ick niet naarlaten, noch om haet ofte gunst van d’ een of d’ ander.
