Presentibus omnibus.

Announced by Lieutenant J. Cruse in accordance with our latest decision in 23 and since we had been absent from tracking down and receiving the Hottentots, we were informed by the following lieutenant. were brought up six stx. Hottentots, called Soncquas, who are said to be active in the cattle thefts and other insidious hostilities committed against these inhabitants here, and since some of the principal adherents, by their very nature, have ventured into the steep, rocky mountains and have managed to stop there in inaccessible paths and prominent hiding places, where it is impossible for our nation to overtake them, despite the fact that strong descendants were daily employed to do so, in order to bring such people into our hands, and since such searches have been fruitless for us, they and other means are entirely useful to implement in the most effective manner. The E.E. Governor, having been summoned, gave the Council this consideration, and after deliberation it was decided to summon the Hottentot captains Kuijper, Schagger, and Thomas to a meeting and to sternly inform them that we ourselves must surrender such criminals or arrest them, and that we must establish order as quickly as possible. We ourselves must remain in custody for so long and before they could be released, the Trompetter and Hertebeest, being among the most cunning robbers, were delivered into our hands. After that, we had to do our best to avoid bringing the E. Company on our neck again. which having been presented to them in a meeting, they have given orders to receive the aforementioned two Hottentots, and have willingly entered into arrest as surety (after each had been intoxicated with a Roman aracq a couple). In order to more easily and amicably encourage the nation to surrender these cattle thieves and highwaymen, and to prevent the theft of the nation as much as possible, it has also been primarily in the interest of the E. Company and for the general tranquility of the farmer and bailiff. In view of the aforementioned captain's complaints, the Hottentots, who are now unable to make a living and are very hungry, have been arrested in such a way as to extract the milk from the Company. To establish a fortification and to have them eat some rice or hearty bread in return, and furthermore to demonstrate that we are also serious about taking legal action against the authors and principal conspirators of such rogue enterprises and, upon discovery of the matter, to punish them. Furthermore, as a deterrent to other suspected rogues, we banish them under close surveillance to Robben Island, where they may be used for some temporary work for the benefit of the E. Company.

Thus resolved and arrested at Fort de Hoop, date above.
