Lastly, the fiscal Mr. Tobijas Vlasvath had interdicted and forbidden the strong drink tappers on Sundays from early morning until noon after the sermon, to serve and sell any strong drink or other beverages on the premises, with a placard placed there for that purpose. Therefore, they appeared in Council and informed the Governor and Council that on working days the people, judging by the day, had to go to work for a whole week, and then had no business, and when on Sundays before noon, when many people also go out to preach, it is customary to consume soup, and this was forbidden almost the entire day. was, that it would remain completely institutionalized106 from its trade and incapable of generating its heavy annual rent, as well as that it had never been practiced at the Cape during its time. Hr. ‘40 stucx werckbeesten om te moogen weten als sij komen te sterven waarvoor sij sullen moeten betaelt werden.’
‘10 ps. koeijen tot behulp van montkost en ondertusschen door verlies van eenigh ongediert of andersints souden konnen komen te verliesen of af te sterven, soo dan genootsaeckt sijn ‘t ontvangene beestiael voor soo veel stucx als genooten wederom te restitueeren.56 Souden dan met eenen van dese boven gemelde koeijen soecken een kalfjen aen te telen en anders niet wel bij konnen brengen om ander in plaats daarvoor te geven.’

‘Als dan voor dese boven gemelde Duijtsen, als slaven souden mogen genieten soo veel rijst als daartoe benodight souden sijn, om naderhant te betaelen waarbij soo veel saaijcooren als van dit jaer benodight sijn in de gront te brengen verschott, oocq souden benodight wesen vier goede roers in leeningh. ‘’t Welcke door den Gouverneur en Raat gelesen en exactelijck geresumeert sijnde, als mede geleth op voor verhaelde meninge van onse Heeren Maijores ons van tijt tot tijt genotificeert, is goet gevonden ende verstaan om d’ E. ‘Maar wat over den Berghrevier te gaen belangt, wegens ‘t grof wilt schieten, veel min eenige ruijlingh met d’ Hottentots, daarom mach niet gedacht werden, op de pene daerop beraemt ofte noch te beraemen.’

En sijn op dese conditie huirders gebleven de persoonen Jochum Marcquart en Hendrick Elbertse voor eerst tot een preuve voor de tijt van 3 jaren, om na expiratie van dien wederom (des begerende) de naeste aan de pacht te cunnen sijn, of anders voor haare ouwde qualiteijten wederom in den dienst comen.
Ende invoegen bij haar Ede. missive als voren geseijt, consteert de mesnagie in alle poincten waer het oocq mochte wesen, te sullen werden moeten waergenomen en ernstachtigh betracht. Soo is mede door den Gouverneur den Raat voorgehouden of men de buijtenposten die neffens die aan de fortificatie arbeijden een dubbeltje daegs genieten sijnde, ‘t selve haer van den out Directeur generael en Commissaris Nicolaes Verburgh toegevoeght, niet behoorde af te schaffen, en die alleen aan de fortificatie en graft arbeijdende, ‘t selve laten behouwden, Soo is na goede overweginge en deliberatie goetgevonden die aan de fortificatie wercken, daartoe wel meerder gerechtigt uijt insigte van den swaren arbeijdt, ‘t selve voortaen alleen maar laten genieten.
Gelijck mede in conformite van haar Edle. missive voormelt, is besonderlijck gereflecteert op ‘t presente guarnisoen, ‘t geene mede volgens haar Edl. begeerte (vermits de besettinge van Hottentots Hollandt nu ingetrocken is) alsdan wat sal werden gediminueert, immers soo veel als lijden can, dat evenwel moeten blijven bestendigh en waarop interim is verstaan onse gedachten te laten gaen om te sien of tegens de komste van ‘t verwacht werdende schepen China en ‘t Landt van Schouwen eenige hooge loontreckers officieren als andere kunnen werden gemist om nae ‘t volck benodighde India met voorseijde bodems te versenden.
Ende is mede in vergaderinge door den E.administrateur en coopman Sr. Hendrick Crudop en capitain Dircq Jansz Smient gerapporteert haar E.Es. wedervaren wegens ‘t aen besteden van ‘t fondament de nieuwe geprojecteerde kerck en kerckhoff met desselffs aancleven, omme de dooden een goede en segoure rustplaats te doen hebben volgens resolutie de dato …61 ende alsoo haar Es. met den baas metselaer Douwe Gerbrants en roeij en lantmeeter62 Johannes Wittebol bij na eens sijn geworden, soo hebben efter ‘t selve soo lange uijtgestelt om eerst met ‘et overlegh van den Edl.Hr. Gouverneur daar over te delibereeren. Soo is bij den Gouverneur en Raat voormelt goetgevonden haar E.Es. opgeleijde commissie (als daarvan reets begonnen en kennis hebbende) t’ eenemael te laten gedefereert en blijven gerecommandeert (soo ras doenlijck) op ‘t civielste voor d’ E.Comp. maar te contracteeren, alsoo de saake gansch geen uijtstel is vereijschende.63
Ende alsoo jaarlijcx omtrent de elexie soo geen vernieuwinge wegens de vendrigs van de burgerij alhier wert gemaeckt, Soo is in Rade oocq sulcx overleijd en goet gevonden volgs. voorige usantie daerinne te volharden en den presenten vendrich Willem van Dieden te laten continueeren, gelijck oock bij ons volgens gebruijck is gearresteert overmorgen, sijnde Donderdagh, de geheele burgerrij aan ‘t fort te doen comen en haar (vermits de tijt nu toelaet) van haeren luijtenant den out Borgerraet Harmen Gresnicht met de behoorlijcke solemniteijten daertoe dienende, te ontslaen en den nieuwen g’eligeerden luijtenant64 en out Borgerraet Elbert Diemer wederom in desselfs plaats voor te stellen en te doen aannemen om in alles gerust en seecker te gaan.
Ende ten opsigte mede in ervaringe gecomen sijn, dat veele soldaten of matroosen wanneer haer costgelt en rijs genoten, en ‘t merendeel verteert hebben, onder voorgeven van sieck te sijn binnen de eerste halve maandt in ‘t hospitael comen, alwaer voor altijt noch sijn opgepast en gerefrischeert, sonder dat ietwes van waardij van haar bovengemelt genoten vrij costgeldt en rijs is cunnen werden gerestitueert, alsoo ‘t selve ‘t sij verset of op eenige andere indirecte wijse vervreemt of geconsumeert is geweest en haerluijden noijt voor dat dubbel genoth van kost ietwes op reeck. gestelt, welck d’ E. Comp. mede maar gansch ten achteren is houdende, Soo is na goet overlegh in alle billickheijt ten meesten nutte der E.Comp. bij ons goetgevonden ende verstaen tot voorkominge van soodanige slinxe gangen die, Godt betert, alte veel in swangh gaen, haerl. de genote rijs en vrij costgeldt (alsoo doch weijnigh of niet daarvan weder krijgen) maar te laten behouwden en voortaen op haer soldijreecq. deselve dan voort belasten, dat is indien niet op begin van de maant in ‘t hospitael voornoemt komen, meenende den Gouverneur en Raat d.E.Compag. dus doende best gedient en behouwden is, wij ‘t volcq die sieck sijn, en bij wijlen willen wesen, niet verongelijckt.
Wijders is noch door den coopman en administrateur Sr.Hendrick Crudop in Vergaderinge overgelevert seeker memorie, behelsende te kort komen van de rijs en alle andere drancken, vette waren, bij ‘s Comps magasijnen berustende, uijtwijsende de ondervolgende memorie, ‘t welck sijn E. versocht na gedaene resumtie te moogen werden geredresseert en volgens jaarlijcx gebruijck afgeschreven, voordragende sijn E. wijders den Gouverneur en Raat dat omtrent de rijs niet tegens 5 per cento althans sullen op halen, bestaende uijt de groote onderwight die met ‘et overvoeren65 van dien corl van ‘t ouwde fort in ‘t nieuwe is gevallen, en dat op de 90 lasten van dat grain66 wel 4 lasten sijn te kort gekomen, conform de attestatien daarvan beleijdt. Meenende meer gemelde administrateur met 6 per cto., alsoo ‘t daarenboven met de cleijne maat naderhant mede noch is uijtgemeeten, het niet veel soude differeeren. Soo is bij den Gouverneur en Raat goet gevonden als de groote spillagie, blijckende bij de overleijde attestatien, haar E.Es. mede niet als te wel bekent sjnde, namentlijck de rijs tegens 6 per cto. te laten afschrijven, als mede een ruijme last rijs uijt Croonenburg soodanigh verdorven dat se voor de verckens alhier onsmakelijck was en vervolgens de andere goederen na rato en soodanigh als de memorie hier onder gevoegt comt te doceeren:
Winst en verlies aan de volgende parthijen, zijnde soo veel comen te beloopen d’ extraordinarij laxatie, spillatie, ondergewigten &a. Ten laasten gemerckt den fiscael Mr. Tobijas Vlasvath de sterkcke drancktappers hadde geinterdiceert en verbooden Sondaghs van smorgens vroegh den dagh aanbreekende tot ‘s middaghs na de predicatie aan geenige souwden onderwinden op de peene bij placcaet daertoe staende105 eenige stercke dranck &a uijt te schencken en verkoopen, soo sijn deselve daarover in Raade verscheenen en hebben den Gouverneur en Raat aangewesen ‘s werkcken daghs ‘t volcq op ‘t sicht van den dach aan ‘t wercq een geheele weeck is moeten gaen, ende alsdan geen neringh is hebben ende wanneer ‘t selve op Sondagh voor de middagh wanneer oock veel buijten luijden ter predicatie gaan, gewent sijn een soopje te nuttigen, en bij na den geheelen dach verbooden wiert, deselve heel destituijt106 blijven van haare neringe en onbequaem om haare sware pachtpenningen jaerlijcx te kunnen opbrengen als mede dat het selve bij haerl. tijt aan de Caap noijt meer was gepracticeert geweest, Soo is na gedaene resumtie vermits ‘t hier noijt bij vorige tijden geobserveert is, goetgevonden onder de predicatie ‘t selve strengelijck volgens den teneur van onse daar toe beraemde placcaten107 te interdiceeren sonder dat sij onder pretext van dese off geene excusen sullen werden verschoont, invoegen den fiscael in vergaderingh is gelast daar nauw reguart op te nemen en buijten tijts na de predickinge108 haerl. te licentieeren.

Aangesien ons per ‘t hoeckerbootje de Snoepper (expres tot bestier van ‘s Comp. wichtige affaires door haar Edle. d’ Heeren Bewindthebberen van de Camer van 17 der generaele Oostindische Comp. afgevaardight) alhier op 21 deser successive sijn toegebracht haar Edle H. agtbare hoogh g’acht schrijvens, de dato 18 October ao. passado tracteerende mede ten principale hoe geerne haer Edle. in dese lastige tijden de mesnagie alomme sagen gehandthaeft en betraght, namentlijck ons presente guarnisoen (dat evenwel bleven bestendigh bij subijten overval van vijandt) gediminueert en de besettingh van Hottentots Hollandt , bestaende in 24 loontreckers, tot verlichtingh haerer onlijdelijcke kosten, ingetrocken ende aldaer eenige vrijluijden op seekere conditien off slaven51 van d’ E.Comp. (ware het doenlijck) te werden geplaatst, omme soo in ‘t een als in ‘t ander, in haere lasten wat te moogen werden gereleveert, in ‘t generaele daertoe te contribueeren wat immers eenige besnoeijinge lijden can, ‘t selve te betrachten gelijck haar Edle. op dien eijgen trant in haar Edle. voorige missiven de dato 11 Maij 1677 mede sijn dicterende, en voor al dat van Hottentots Hollant en verder de mesnagie serieuselijck sijn recommanderende,52 waar op bij den Gouverneur en Raat doenmaels enbevorens53 goede reflectie is genomen en verscheijde van de principaele doch alle vrijl. wegens H.Hollandt en haar Edl. goede intentie kennis gedaan en daartoe onder belofte van groote ondersteuningh van d’ E.Comp. vooreerst54 te erlangen gepersuadeert, doch geenige tot ons leetwesen op onse uijtnodigingh met ernstige meeninge verscheenen, Soo dat den E. Hr. Gouverneur en Raet tot naarcominge en voldoeninge van haer Edle. wel gegeven ordre en begeerte met ‘et aanprijsen en aanmanen van geseijde plaets Hs.Hollandt gecontinueert hebbende, eijndelijck tot ons groot genoegen en ‘s Comps. welstant haer hebben daartoe g’inclineert getoont den baas slagter alhier Jochum Marcquart en den baas landtbouwer Hendrick Elberts aan ‘s Comps. coorenschuer beijde laboreuse mannen en gepresenteert55 seker request, behelsende ‘t geene tot bestier van den lantbouw aldaer en eijndelijck met d’ E.Comp. eens sijn geworden op de volgende conditien, aldus van woorde tot woorde:
Aan den Edle.Heer mijn Heer Gouverneur en den Achtbaren Raat doen wij voorslach wat souden benodigt wesen in ‘t aenvaerden van Hottentots Hollandt om aldaer den landtbouw mede te bestieren en voort te setten als te weten:
‘40 stucx werckbeesten om te moogen weten als sij komen te sterven waarvoor sij sullen moeten betaelt werden.’
‘10 ps. koeijen tot behulp van montkost en ondertusschen door verlies van eenigh ongediert of andersints souden konnen komen te verliesen of af te sterven, soo dan genootsaeckt sijn ‘t ontvangene beestiael voor soo veel stucx als genooten wederom te restitueeren.56 Souden dan met eenen van dese boven gemelde koeijen soecken een kalfjen aen te telen en anders niet wel bij konnen brengen om ander in plaats daarvoor te geven.’
‘Volgens soo veel duijten als daartoe benodight mochten sijn, te weten: in jaerlijcxse leenigh voor dien tijt om te moogen soecken aen ‘t fort off op ‘s Comps. posten waar se mochten sijn, uijtgesondert Hottentots Hollant , benevens twee goede slaven die wat kundigh mochten sijn met noch vier stucx do. soo voor tegenwoordigh in Ht. Hollandt resideeren en die daer uijt te kiesen voor betalingh over een jaer, voor soo veel als mijn de E. Heer Gouverneur en den achtbaren Raet met een redelijcke prijs sullen gelieven af te staen, mits alvooren eerst besichtigt te hebben.’
‘Voorts al het bouwgereetschap met twee wagens alles dat daer is off van nooden soude moogen sijn, en ‘t welcq onbequaem is, eerst soude moogen gerepareert worden om voor goet te ontfangen, met noch twee nieuwe ploeghschaeren om in voorraet te houden, op dat door ‘t breecken van dien, geenen tijt soude moogen versuijmt worden.’
‘Als dan voor dese boven gemelde Duijtsen, als slaven souden mogen genieten soo veel rijst als daartoe benodight souden sijn, om naderhant te betaelen waarbij soo veel saaijcooren als van dit jaer benodight sijn in de gront te brengen verschott, oocq souden benodight wesen vier goede roers in leeningh. En als wij in den ougst van de gesaaijde granen souden benodight wesen eenige Duijtsen om te maijen, om sonder veel verlies ‘t koren te beter onder de voet moogen krijgen, genieten voor dien tijt in leeningh mits betaelingh.’
‘Om een klijn schuijtjen met een goede57 segen om vrij te moogen visschen, oocq bij geval met een wagen souden moogen over den bergh gaen, oft aen de Berghrevier om seekoeijen te schieten, mede tot onderhout van ‘t huijshouden; en soo daar eenige quantiteijt van vis of geschooten vlees moght overigh wesen, meer als tot onse nootwendigheijt, alsdan souden moogen vercoopen, doch d’ E.Compa. ‘t selve benodigende, de naaste sal sijn voor soodanigen prijs als daer op staet.’
‘Om jaerlijcx te moogen genieten twee vrachten sout en om soo veel lant te moogen breecken als souden konnen behe[e]rschen.’
‘Om een troepjen schaepen te moogen houden tot onse nootdruft en dat voor een tijt van ses jaeren. Waerop verblijven Sijn Edle. onderdanigste dienaers, en was onderteijckent Jochum Marcquart en Hendrick Elbersz. In margine adij 25 Januarij ao. 1678.58 ‘
‘’t Welcke door den Gouverneur en Raat gelesen en exactelijck geresumeert sijnde, als mede geleth op voor verhaelde meninge van onse Heeren Maijores ons van tijt tot tijt genotificeert, is goet gevonden ende verstaan om d’ E. Compag. op de beste maniere van die al te kostelijcke besettinge in Hottentots Hollandt te ontslaen, opgemelde contractanten, sijnde twee dappere en ervarene persoonen, haar vrijdom te vergunnen en op de volgende wijse en conditien te contracteeren:59 ‘
‘Eerstelijck deselve tot bestier van den lantbouw en haeren verdere ommeslagh, van d’ E.Compag. in leeninge te geven 40 ps. werckbeesten, mits dat voor ‘t verlies off affsterven derselver, stuck voor stuck tegens ƒ12 gehouwden sijn te vergoeden.’
‘Insgelijcx wert haerl. tot montkost &a. toegestaen 10 ps. koeijen welcke mede gehouwden blijven bij verongelucken als anders te restitueeren tegens de somma voors.’
‘Sullende deselve mede tot haare adsistentie genieten soo veel Duijtsche60 jaerlijcks in leeninge als van noode hebben, mits dat de ordinaire betalinge aan d’ E.Comp. daer voor wert gedaan, namentlijck als gebruijckelijck.’
‘Twaelf compags. slaven mans en gelijck getal vrouwen sullen t’ haeren behoeve in Hottentots Hollandt blijven ‘t eerste jaer ten laste van de E.Compag.’
‘Alle het bouwgereetschap dat onbequaem is, alvoorens gerepareert sijnde, sullen aldaar tot haer gebruijck houwden, mits dat het selve bij expiratie van de huir wederom in gelijcke valeur moet werden gerestitueert.’
‘Een nieuwe ploegschaer in voorraet om haarl. uijt verlegentheijt te houden is mede mits betalinge haerl. veraccordeert.’
‘Met vier a 6 bequame roers tot haerl. defensie en ‘t afweeren van ‘t ongediert, vijanden &a.’
‘En sullen werden ondersteunt ter leen met zoo veel zaatkoorn als nodigh hebben voor dit jaar.’

‘Haerlujsden sal mede in den oegsttijt eenige Duijtsen om ‘t graan in der ijl onder de voet te krijgen niet geweijgert worden, soo deselve van d’ E.Comp. alsdan maar cunnen werden gemist, mits betalende.’
‘Een schuijtjen wert haerl. toegestaan te laten maeken waartoe haar plancken sullen werden gegeven t’ haren coste, nevens een zegen om te vissen soo veel die d’ E. Comp. komt te kosten en dat ten opsichte van Compag. slaven. Sullende d’ E.Compa. de vis die overigh hebben, aannemen ten prijse daartoe staande.’
‘Maar wat over den Berghrevier te gaen belangt, wegens ‘t grof wilt schieten, veel min eenige ruijlingh met d’ Hottentots, daarom mach niet gedacht werden, op de pene daerop beraemt ofte noch te beraemen.’
‘Twee vrachten sout tot ‘et insouten van bovengemelde vis en haarl. montkost wert haerl. toegestaan van de soutpannen te halen.’
‘Werdende hun mede gepermitteert soo veel lant te moogen breecken als immers cunnen beheerschen.’

‘En sal haar van ‘s Comps. wegen om op ‘s Comps. beesten te passen, bestelt werden 2 Duijtse waer van den eenen den melckboer present daer sijnde, zal sijn ten laste van d’ E. Comp. die oocq soo veel slaven van de bovengenoemde 24 als tot de oppas van noden is, sullen gebruijcken.’
‘Eijndelijck sullen jaerlijcks voor ‘t genoth van ‘t lant, beesten, gereetschappen &a. aan d’ E.Comp. betalen aan granen: 60 mudde taruw, 20 do. gerst en 20 do. rogge, sijnde 100 mudde, mits dat comen met ten eersten te besorgen dat al het vee onder ‘t dack raeckt.’
‘En blijven geseijde contractanten van alles ‘t welcq ontfangen hebben, bewijs reecq. en reliqua te doen, en wederom bij expiratie van de huirtijt ‘t ontfangene te restitueeren in forma probanti.’
En sijn op dese conditie huirders gebleven de persoonen Jochum Marcquart en Hendrick Elbertse voor eerst tot een preuve voor de tijt van 3 jaren, om na expiratie van dien wederom (des begerende) de naeste aan de pacht te cunnen sijn, of anders voor haare ouwde qualiteijten wederom in den dienst comen.
Ende invoegen bij haar Ede. missive als voren geseijt, consteert de mesnagie in alle poincten waer het oocq mochte wesen, te sullen werden moeten waergenomen en ernstachtigh betracht. Soo is mede door den Gouverneur den Raat voorgehouden of men de buijtenposten die neffens die aan de fortificatie arbeijden een dubbeltje daegs genieten sijnde, ‘t selve haer van den out Directeur generael en Commissaris Nicolaes Verburgh toegevoeght, niet behoorde af te schaffen, en die alleen aan de fortificatie en graft arbeijdende, ‘t selve laten behouwden, Soo is na goede overweginge en deliberatie goetgevonden die aan de fortificatie wercken, daartoe wel meerder gerechtigt uijt insigte van den swaren arbeijdt, ‘t selve voortaen alleen maar laten genieten.
Gelijck mede in conformite van haar Edle. missive voormelt, is besonderlijck gereflecteert op ‘t presente guarnisoen, ‘t geene mede volgens haar Edl. begeerte (vermits de besettinge van Hottentots Hollandt nu ingetrocken is) alsdan wat sal werden gediminueert, immers soo veel als lijden can, dat evenwel moeten blijven bestendigh en waarop interim is verstaan onse gedachten te laten gaen om te sien of tegens de komste van ‘t verwacht werdende schepen China en ‘t Landt van Schouwen eenige hooge loontreckers officieren als andere kunnen werden gemist om nae ‘t volck benodighde India met voorseijde bodems te versenden.
Ende is mede in vergaderinge door den E.administrateur en coopman Sr. Hendrick Crudop en capitain Dircq Jansz Smient gerapporteert haar E.Es. wedervaren wegens ‘t aen besteden van ‘t fondament de nieuwe geprojecteerde kerck en kerckhoff met desselffs aancleven, omme de dooden een goede en segoure rustplaats te doen hebben volgens resolutie de dato …61 ende alsoo haar Es. met den baas metselaer Douwe Gerbrants en roeij en lantmeeter62 Johannes Wittebol bij na eens sijn geworden, soo hebben efter ‘t selve soo lange uijtgestelt om eerst met ‘et overlegh van den Edl.Hr. Gouverneur daar over te delibereeren. Soo is bij den Gouverneur en Raat voormelt goetgevonden haar E.Es. opgeleijde commissie (als daarvan reets begonnen en kennis hebbende) t’ eenemael te laten gedefereert en blijven gerecommandeert (soo ras doenlijck) op ‘t civielste voor d’ E.Comp. maar te contracteeren, alsoo de saake gansch geen uijtstel is vereijschende.63
Ende alsoo jaarlijcx omtrent de elexie soo geen vernieuwinge wegens de vendrigs van de burgerij alhier wert gemaeckt, Soo is in Rade oocq sulcx overleijd en goet gevonden volgs. voorige usantie daerinne te volharden en den presenten vendrich Willem van Dieden te laten continueeren, gelijck oock bij ons volgens gebruijck is gearresteert overmorgen, sijnde Donderdagh, de geheele burgerrij aan ‘t fort te doen comen en haar (vermits de tijt nu toelaet) van haeren luijtenant den out Borgerraet Harmen Gresnicht met de behoorlijcke solemniteijten daertoe dienende, te ontslaen en den nieuwen g’eligeerden luijtenant64 en out Borgerraet Elbert Diemer wederom in desselfs plaats voor te stellen en te doen aannemen om in alles gerust en seecker te gaan.
Ende ten opsigte mede in ervaringe gecomen sijn, dat veele soldaten of matroosen wanneer haer costgelt en rijs genoten, en ‘t merendeel verteert hebben, onder voorgeven van sieck te sijn binnen de eerste halve maandt in ‘t hospitael comen, alwaer voor altijt noch sijn opgepast en gerefrischeert, sonder dat ietwes van waardij van haar bovengemelt genoten vrij costgeldt en rijs is cunnen werden gerestitueert, alsoo ‘t selve ‘t sij verset of op eenige andere indirecte wijse vervreemt of geconsumeert is geweest en haerluijden noijt voor dat dubbel genoth van kost ietwes op reeck. gestelt, welck d’ E. Comp. mede maar gansch ten achteren is houdende, Soo is na goet overlegh in alle billickheijt ten meesten nutte der E.Comp. bij ons goetgevonden ende verstaen tot voorkominge van soodanige slinxe gangen die, Godt betert, alte veel in swangh gaen, haerl. de genote rijs en vrij costgeldt (alsoo doch weijnigh of niet daarvan weder krijgen) maar te laten behouwden en voortaen op haer soldijreecq. deselve dan voort belasten, dat is indien niet op begin van de maant in ‘t hospitael voornoemt komen, meenende den Gouverneur en Raat d.E.Compag. dus doende best gedient en behouwden is, wij ‘t volcq die sieck sijn, en bij wijlen willen wesen, niet verongelijckt.
Wijders is noch door den coopman en administrateur Sr.Hendrick Crudop in Vergaderinge overgelevert seeker memorie, behelsende te kort komen van de rijs en alle andere drancken, vette waren, bij ‘s Comps magasijnen berustende, uijtwijsende de ondervolgende memorie, ‘t welck sijn E. versocht na gedaene resumtie te moogen werden geredresseert en volgens jaarlijcx gebruijck afgeschreven, voordragende sijn E. wijders den Gouverneur en Raat dat omtrent de rijs niet tegens 5 per cento althans sullen op halen, bestaende uijt de groote onderwight die met ‘et overvoeren65 van dien corl van ‘t ouwde fort in ‘t nieuwe is gevallen, en dat op de 90 lasten van dat grain66 wel 4 lasten sijn te kort gekomen, conform de attestatien daarvan beleijdt. Meenende meer gemelde administrateur met 6 per cto., alsoo ‘t daarenboven met de cleijne maat naderhant mede noch is uijtgemeeten, het niet veel soude differeeren. Soo is bij den Gouverneur en Raat goet gevonden als de groote spillagie, blijckende bij de overleijde attestatien, haar E.Es. mede niet als te wel bekent sjnde, namentlijck de rijs tegens 6 per cto. te laten afschrijven, als mede een ruijme last rijs uijt Croonenburg soodanigh verdorven dat se voor de verckens alhier onsmakelijck was en vervolgens de andere goederen na rato en soodanigh als de memorie hier onder gevoegt comt te doceeren:

Ten laasten gemerckt den fiscael Mr. Tobijas Vlasvath de sterkcke drancktappers hadde geinterdiceert en verbooden Sondaghs van smorgens vroegh den dagh aanbreekende tot ‘s middaghs na de predicatie aan geenige souwden onderwinden op de peene bij placcaet daertoe staende105 eenige stercke dranck &a uijt te schencken en verkoopen, soo sijn deselve daarover in Raade verscheenen en hebben den Gouverneur en Raat aangewesen ‘s werkcken daghs ‘t volcq op ‘t sicht van den dach aan ‘t wercq een geheele weeck is moeten gaen, ende alsdan geen neringh is hebben ende wanneer ‘t selve op Sondagh voor de middagh wanneer oock veel buijten luijden ter predicatie gaan, gewent sijn een soopje te nuttigen, en bij na den geheelen dach verbooden wiert, deselve heel destituijt106 blijven van haare neringe en onbequaem om haare sware pachtpenningen jaerlijcx te kunnen opbrengen als mede dat het selve bij haerl. tijt aan de Caap noijt meer was gepracticeert geweest, Soo is na gedaene resumtie vermits ‘t hier noijt bij vorige tijden geobserveert is, goetgevonden onder de predicatie ‘t selve strengelijck volgens den teneur van onse daar toe beraemde placcaten107 te interdiceeren sonder dat sij onder pretext van dese off geene excusen sullen werden verschoont, invoegen den fiscael in vergaderingh is gelast daar nauw reguart op te nemen en buijten tijts na de predickinge108 haerl. te licentieeren.
Aldus gedaan ende geresolveert in ‘t Fort de Goede Hoop ten dage en jaare voors.
