Furthermore, a request was presented to us from the chief merchant and former deputy, Monsignor Albert van Breugel, worded as follows:
To the Honourable Mr. Joan Bax, Governor of Cabo de Boa Esperance, as well as His Honourable Councillors.
"With due respect, Albertus van Breugel, chief merchant, informs us how he supplicates. having been deprived of his ministry for quite some time past, and having waited in vain for the arrival of the Noble Director General Nicolaes Verburgh, if his suppt. expired affairs (until late) have not been rectified, and considering that he is subpt. to relieve Your Noble Honor of further trouble, Your Noble Honor hopes it will not be unpleasant that his suppt. undecided affair is revoyed to Batavia, so he submits himself in all submission to Your Noble Honor, humbly requesting that he subpt. with the flute ship Sparrendam in his capacity under Your Noble. "The honorable favor may be granted leave to Batavia76 to further justify himself there."
"Which, having been read and summarized precisely, after careful deliberation of the above, is considered best for the aforementioned supp. (noting that we are weak in counsel here and the supp. is seeking all their testimony to the truth against Mr. Goske) with the agreed-upon proceedings and remaining property, which after all would not be well spent here, to revoy to Batavia with the aforementioned ship to better justify his affairs there (as the supp. believes), but outside of command, except, however, that the skipper, the aforementioned supp. will not have to offend in the least, but will be permitted to assess his worth and treat him in the cabin.77
Done and resolved in the Fort of Good Hope on the day and year mentioned above.
