In this Council, the resolution, taken by the Honorable Governor Isbrandt Goske and Mr. Joan Bax of Herentals, together with Ensign Jeronimus Cruse, dated January 3rd, is summarized, principally requesting the junior merchant and provisional administrator of this Government, Hendrick Crudop (for his good and faithful services, performed here for several years in various important positions) in the aforementioned to confirm absolutely, and in addition to that to add the quality of merchant with a current salary, Also to dedicate to Lieutenant Dircq Jansz Smient, in view of his many years of impeccable good services, and above his ordinary function, tireless work, regarding the construction of this new fortress, the absolute quality of captain, in addition to a monthly salary of 75 guilders, which is to be accepted by both of them as being complicated, with a declaration that they would rather await the personal appearance and presence of Mr. Admiral and Commissioner Nicolaes Verburgh, which matter was then again considered in Council, and it being considered that not only their aforementioned merits and competence, but also the continuation of such active persons here in this place is necessarily required, it was therefore approved and understood, under the approval of the Honorable Men Majores, in order to increasingly stimulate their good will in the service of the Royal Company, to first depute the capacity of merchant to the sub-merchant Hendrick Crudop with a monthly salary of ƒ80, as well as to furnish his ƒ above and beyond with the second person, and administrator's place of the Government. And to add to the aforementioned Lieutenant Dirck Jansz Smient the honorary rank of Captain Absolute and a salary of ƒ80 per month, provided that both remain committed to serving here from January 3rd of last year for another five years.
It is further understood that the Ordinary Council of this place, after the departure of the return fleet, will consist of the following persons, who will be arranged in the following order:
Also, that the yacht Voorhout, moored here, will be used after the departure of the return fleet to fetch slaves from Madagascar (according to the orders received from Her Majesty). Furthermore, it has been agreed that the Cronenburgh fleet, having arrived from the Netherlands and having been stationed here since February 19th, will depart for Ceylon (the destination of his destination) within 4 or 5 days. It has also been determined that the return fleet under the flag of Hr. Admiral Nicolaes Verburgh will undertake the journey from here to the Netherlands on the 12th of this current month of March.
And with the consent of the E. Comps. A small shop here, now in use for some time (due to the lack of a competent servant), has not been in its former form. It has been resolved to re-establish it and appoint Martinus van Banchem as shopkeeper, and to delegate the secret office to him.
Lastly, the son of the Citizen's Council of this place, Elbert Di[e]mer, known as Dirck Di[e]mer, was accepted into the service of the Reverend Compe as a junior assistant, at his and his father's earnest request and humble application, with a monthly salary of ƒ12 per month and a five-year banishment.
Thus resolved at the Fort of Good Hope, on the date and year mentioned above. Was signed N. VERBURCH, ISBRAND GOSKE, J. BAX b. v. HERENTALS, JOOST CLANT, JOAN PUTMANS, H. CRUDOP, DIRCK JANSZ SMIENT, and LAMB. de GROOT, Secrets.
