English translation

Having been proposed to the meeting by the E. Governor of this residence and also found to be effective,32 how his E. had become aware that the merchant Albert van Breugel secretly packed his best goods to send, and thus deliberately frustrating the E. Company from the guarantee that he could take over the shortfall on his own resources during his administration, and this matter being full of suspect actions, considered by the Council, to be of particularly bad consequence, So, after mature consideration, it is in the best interest of the E. Company. It was agreed and understood that the sooner his resources would be secured, and that for this purpose he would be personally summoned to Rade and there instructed to deduct the funds from his administration. Furthermore, he would be asked whether he considered himself capable of paying it all, to provide sufficient security for it, or to indicate in some way or other something from which the Company could draw its guarantee. The aforementioned merchant Breugel, who appeared in Rade, and was proposed to him by His E., replied that he had no means to pay such significant sums, nor any guarantee for the E. Company. managed to point out, much less to provide surety for it, which was subsequently approached by the Governor in amicable terms and asked whether, in accordance with the resolution dated 26 April last, (punctually notified to him), he had ever complied with the inspection of his former bottler's receipts and requested papers, and had invent anything to his advantage. Item that after that date the Secretary had not placed the same receipts in his hands. and the notorious pretenses the aforementioned butler made to various people here, to tell a short story about his shortcomings, and then to question him about it, asking if, if any assistance or misunderstanding was needed, someone from the Council had requested it at some point? And to this, after more reflection, Breugel briefly replied that he had indeed reviewed the aforementioned butler's papers, aware of the dispensation he had made, but could find neither head nor tail in them, just as the other party had. between him personally and this and no one outstanding, and also tried to speak to him about it, but that one was in the forest, the second had left, and the third was not at home, nothing had been progressed in this regard, which was notified to him by the Governor, since he was unable to indicate or propose to Breugel any means in which the E. Compa. so that the matter might be guaranteed by himself and his butler, he much less attempted to find out, but on the contrary, his misconduct with the aforementioned allegation and such excuses still sought to excuse, that the Council, in fulfilling its duty, had been refused to come to such a resolution, which greatly obstructed its right, and might well have wished otherwise, namely to secure his means, and that consequently, having done so, he would have to leave his residence for another apartment, and abstain from it at night until further notice and for so long as he could have made a proper account and statement of his administration and the matter. as well as to draw up whatever he might claim from anyone for treason, also meaning to provide him with all resources necessary for this purpose, and which he might request.

Thus arrested and resolved in the Fort of Good Hope on the day and year mentioned above.
