As we learned, with the paresse of the flute, from the House at Bergen, so soon here from the fatherland, from its chiefs, among others, that they had yesterday safely missed Dasseneyland, the ship America (wandering at sea in the vicinity and Saldanhi Bay and hoping for a good wind) as well as that it21 on the aforementioned. ship was in very bad condition, and over a hundred and forty persons, during the voyage, had lost their lives, nor were they burdened with illness, besides that a certain conspiracy had also been discovered to leave the ship, of which 8 or 10 companions having confessed, were locked in the ice, and that it cannot be doubted that the said ship, considering this precarious constitution, will see, also for drinking water and other refreshments, for the refreshment of the sick and for the assistance of the people, was greatly needed, so that it is to search for the said ship, and then bring her here, according to previous deliberation, mostly in the service of the E. Compa. resolved and determined to launch the existing whistle, the Flying Swan, liberally equipped with water and all kinds of refreshments, to Saldanhi Bay as soon as possible, and, as24 the aforementioned ship in this miserable condition seems to be quite lacking in good order and order with regard to these and any occurring difficulties, to prevent further disasters and to no longer peril that precious bottom, to send a person on behalf of that ship down there, as well as to commit the E. Commander Jacob Lobs, to depart on the aforementioned ship as soon as God's weather and wind permit, and that his E. will be deputed regarding the conspirators and their followers, to do and perform as he deems appropriate and proper for the benefit of the E. Company and the ship's security.
Thus resolved at the Fort of Good Hope on the day and year of the aforesaid.
