We have noticed some time ago, to our particular displeasure, that the contractors or tenants of the Comps. garden Rustenburg and its dependencies do not take its cultivation to heart as the principles seemed to dictate. This is primarily due to the fact that one tenant, having been massacred inland by the Gonnomas Hottentoes for over a year and a half, and the second, who is involved in brewing beer, does not seem to take the necessary supervision over it as this work is actually required, as a result of which it is to be feared that the aforementioned garden will gradually deteriorate and ultimately fall into complete ruin if it is not remedied in a timely manner. and, as people have since shown a tendency towards this and are somewhat laborious by nature, as well as being sufficiently able to raise the lease payments, to prevent further decay, it was decided, after the aforementioned deliberation, to release the previous tenants and transfer them to citizen Cornelis Stevensz, for a period of two years, commencing with the following month, and instead of four thousand, against an annual rent of three thousand guilders. The price applies, provided that the tenants also enjoy the same privileges of tapping as the previous contractors.
Considering, therefore, that the water corn mill is still to be paid for by the E. Compe. retained, has only served as a nuisance and has not been able to yield as much as the repairs and expenses incurred from year to year have done; it was agreed, on presentation by miller Jan Dircksz, to lease it to him, initially for a period of two years at three hundred guilders annually, on condition that he will have to provide such emoluments of a rightful sixth part for the mill, as the E. Compe. has previously enjoyed from it, or if such is required in money to pay such prices as will be estimated for it by ordinance, and that the repairs exceed twelve guilders. amounting to the account of the Company, and below which the lessee shall pay annually, provided that after the expiration of the aforementioned two years, the mill does not return its equipment, except the stones, in the same condition as when transported, and that he himself shall be required to pay no wages or other remuneration.
Thus resolved and arrested in the Fort of Good Hope, date above.

Gemerckt nu eenigen tijt herwaerts, tot ons bijsonder misnoegen hebben moeten ervaren, dat de contractanten ofte huurders van ‘s Comps. tuijn Rustenburg en den aencleve van dien, d’culture desselfs niet sodanigh ter harten nemen als de beginselen daer toe wel schenen te leggen, ten principale ook veroorsaeckt werdende door dien den eenen huurder, voor ruijm anderhalf jaren van d’Gonnomase Hottentoos te landewaart gemassacreert zijnde, en de twede sigh daer besijden met het brouwen van bieren bemoeiende, niet sodanig toesight daer op comt te nemen als dit werck na den eijsch wel is requirerende, waar door dan te dughten staat de voors. tuijn soo langs soo meer veraghteren en eijndelijck geheel tot ruine soude kunnen geraken, indien niet tijdigh daerin wierde versien; ende alsoo zedert weder luijden haer hebben vertoont inclinatie daer toe hebbende en vrij wat laboreuser van natuur, mitsgaders suffisant genoegh sijnde om de paghtpenningen op te brengen, Soo is tot preventie van meerder verval, nae voorgaende deliberatie goetgevonden d’vorige huurders daervan te ontslaan en denselven aen den borger Cornelis Stevensz over te doen en dat voor den tijt van twee jaren, innegaende pmo. Maij aenstaende, en zulx in plaats van vier duijsent, tegens een jaarlijxe paght van drie duijsent guld. Compe. aengehouden, niet dan tot beslommeringe gedient en geensints sooveel hebbende connen opbrengen als wel reparatien en onkosten van jaar tot jaar daeraen gedaan, sijn belopende; goetgevonden is op d’presentatie van den molenaar Jan Dircksz deselve aen hem te verpaghten en dat voor eerst voor den tijt van twee jaren tot drie hondert gls. jaarlijx, mits dat hij daer tegens sal hebben te gauderen sodanige emolumenten van een gereght seste part voor ‘t gemaal, als d’E. Compe. voor desen daer van genoten heeft, of sulx in gelt begeert werdende te voldoen, sodanige prijsen als bij ordonnantie daer op sullen werden beraemt, en dat d’ reparatie boven d’ twaelf guld. bedragende voor rekening van d’Compe., en daer beneden tot laste van den huurder jaarlijx sal werden gedaan, mits na expiratie van de voors. twee jaren, d’molen niet hare gereetschappen except de stenen, in sodanigen staad weder overleverende als hem ‘t selve is getransporteert, en hij sig selven in middens buijten gagie of andere tractementen te genieten sal moeten erneren.
