English translation
Thus, after deliberation, it was resolutely decided that the aforementioned merchant Jan Jochim Pauli should be arrested at his lodgings for the first time and until the matter could be further investigated, as soon as he had been heard before the commissioners Albert van Breugel and Dirq Jansz. Smient voluntarily confessed and confessed how he had involved himself not only in advising the surgeon, but also in assisting him by providing nine or ten rixdollars in cash, so that he, the surgeon, could support himself with this and save himself, and in time allow the opportunity to salvage him further on board, while nevertheless appearing near the Governor, protested of his own accord, without any previous persuasion, calling God Almighty to witness that if he had any further information about the surgeon, had knowledge of him, or would be able to report him, this being evident not only from his great levity in taking the Lord's Name in vain, use, but that under that appearance we have also tried to abuse it, in consequence of having violated all the more our said eloquent placca, and thus fallen under the penalty expressed therein. Therefore the Governor puts to the Council the question whether the fiscal should not be ordered to institute his action, as and when he thinks he has; what has been taken into account, and although there is reason not to debate against it, is nevertheless only in respect of the Maijt. the King of Denmark, and to demonstrate how much we value their goodwill, we have agreed and resolved to lay hands on the fiscal, but to prevent any further misfortune, that he, having rendered himself unworthy, will deprive Pauli of the hospitality and other civil entertainment he received during his stay, along with all those he has who are still withholding from her on the land, of transporting them aboard, with the insinuation that he, Pauli, will remain there without returning, without prejudice to the water-fetching and other duties, as much as may be necessary for the benefit of the said royal ship.
Thus resolved in the Fortress of Goede Hope, date above.
