It was noted that today, along with the appearance of the Saxenburgh flute from the Fatherland, among other letters, a certain missive from the Commissioner Gentlemen Directors from The Hague, dated April 13th, has arrived, in which they order that, in the event that we were equipped with some hooks upon the appearance of the said flute here, and could be made sailing-ready in short order, one of the same, accompanied by the letters of the aforementioned Saxenburgh from the Fatherland, to despatch to Batavia without the slightest hesitation, and in return the aforementioned ship, along with the Cattenburgh flute (which we also meet every day), to be detained here until further notice. But conversely, if Saxenburgh or Cattenburgh were first to be informed, to send them there as soon as possible. Accordingly, it has been decided, with common advice, to appropriating the hooker d' Lijster, who is here, as quickly as possible, and then to send the aforementioned Saxenburgh letters and other advice to the High Government in Batavia, as well as the aforementioned flute, along with the expected Cattenburgh, in accordance with Her Honor's aforementioned order, to be detained here until we receive further instructions on the matter.

Taking into account the current precarious state of affairs, and the fact that the enemies of our State, as a result of the E. Compe., taking an entreprinse at this location, would find a much-desired refreshment at Dasseneijlant, where the aforementioned Compe. currently has over 500 st. could bring in a good half-breed of sheep, and, having mastered the said island with the least effort, then return there according to appetite.

Therefore, it has been decided and understood that all the sheep should be brought from there at the first opportunity, either directly with one of our vessels here or overland via the Saldanhia, as best and convenient can be done. As has also been experienced, the E. Compe. This place, due to its remoteness, cannot be used to its full potential, and there is always a lack of one thing or another, maintaining that it should also be practiced regarding Robben Island.

Friday, August 18, 1672.62

Also, Their Honorable Lords, in their letter of May 15 of last year, authorized, among other things, that at that time and for that period, the money here should be increased to 50 Rxrs. The cask could be debited, we could tap as much of that drink from the passing ships as we could comfortably consume, and consequently, it was discovered in the invoices of the arriving Saxony-Anhalt that he had a good quantity of Luijx beer for the country, and some of our privileged tappers, to tap some of those casks, at such a reasonable payment as might be expected, have very promptly requested it.

Therefore, after the previous deliberation, it was resolved to accommodate the honorable citizens, and to compensate the E. Compe. for as much of the spoilage that the said drink had become due to the extraordinary length of storage of the aforementioned. Should any person come here to present himself, to guarantee, at the pleasure of Her aforesaid Honor, to withdraw 15 1/2 barrels from it, and, in view of the lower prices, quality, and quantity against the current price, to debit them to 40 Rxrs. per barrel and to sell them again.

Thus resolved in the Fortress of Good Hope in the days and years aforesaid.
