English translation

As on the 25th of last month the boat Marcken came to pass here (expressly sent by Their Noble Lords Principals to the islands of St. Thome and Annabon, to negotiate with the former a good number of slaves for the benefit of this residence, and with the latter to bring back some quantities of manive or farinha root51 etc.) which, according to the report of the chiefs, completely beyond all hope, had not been able to oblige in the least in the projected slave trade at St. Thome, and so had to depart in vain for Annabon, from whence we then have only a small sample of the aforementioned having been brought in by the ship,

And considering that Their Honor, Our Lordships Majors in the Fatherland, have kindly delegated the further employment of this vessel to us, but considering that there is at least no occasion to detain and use the same vessel for the service of the Royal Company here. Consequently, it has been deemed good and understood that the small cargo, given by the aforementioned chiefs in the Fatherland52 in the hope of trade, in addition to what has been shipped off there for this place53, should be unloaded as soon as possible, and then the vessel should be shipped to Batavia, where no opportunity will be lacking to employ it better than here.

Thus resolved in the Fortress of Good Hope on the day and year aforesaid.
