As it has been noted here for quite some time now that there is regret regarding the promotion of the right service to 's Comps. coorenschuijr all went rather sloppily, mainly resulting in the boss or overseer there not using the required means, either through his carelessness or slackness in commanding, but due to lack of properly suitable material, this could not yet be remedied, but since recently a freeman arrived here by the ship d' Burgh van Leijden, one Hendrick Elbertsz van Osnabrugge, who for a good period of years had been reported to d' Caep as a farmer, and since therefore he was shown to have a good knowledge of arable farming as well as other required skills and comportment, it is therefore that from the aforementioned reason we mentioned H. Elbertsz having been accepted into the service of the E. Compe. and provisionally appointed as overseer of the aforementioned grain scourer, with a remuneration of ƒ20 and 3 reales per month, but with the reservation that if our intention with him, Elbertsz, should prove in vain, he will then be released, but if good service continues, he will be accepted under a three-year ban from that date onwards, and his predecessor, Cornelis Claasz, will be allowed to live in freedom at his request.
Done on the date and year aforesaid.
Presented to me, and initialed by order of the Commander and Council, with me.
