As Her Honor, in her general letter of the 5th of September of last year, had kindly ordered us, among other things, that we should, at a suitable opportunity, make a deployment to the Majottes for the purpose of arranging our lives, and, in accordance with the same order and resolution, upon the presence of Mr. Commissioner Goske, dated 21st of February, station there, instead of the projected hoecker d'Grundel, the whistle the Sandloper sent us from Batavia with rice & ca., being judged more suitable and useful for that purpose, we have the same as now somewhat appropriate and equipped with a cargo for that trade, in order to be able to start this voyage presently, but also at the oral conferences with experienced persons, concerning the project of this sending held, it was quite doubted whether the slave trade could be achieved there. Therefore, in consideration of the fruitless return hither, we have, with common advice, decided in council, if the chiefs of The aforementioned whistle, reaching their eyes, showed no apparent sign that their voyage would then have to continue onward to Batavia, and the cargo, estimated at ƒ2,130, was handed over to them for that purpose at the order of the Noble Hr. Governor-General, especially since the said small ship was deemed unsuitable for free passage and to be kept in these waters.49
Thus done and resolved at the Fortress of Good Hope on the day and year aforesaid.
Presented to me and prepared to the order of the Commander and Council.
