Considered His Nobility, Our Lords. Principals in their same letters of the 24th of August a.o. Passado not only have pleased to record with pleasure the voyage to the east of this coast, which was set in motion in the year 1668 with the galley De Voerman, but also to order us that in due time we may well continue it: Therefore His Nobility, the Reverend Commander, has advised the Council that, in satisfaction of the said Her Nobility, order would not consider good the recently117 returned from the North Hoecker de Grundel, to be appropriated to this exploit de novo,118 together in what ways and to what extent this consideration should be allowed to tender: And, after this matter has been circumspectly considered by the Council, and all debates have been balanced, It is, after various arguments with the agreement of common advice, arrested, the aforementioned Hoecker de Grundel, a suitable ship for exploring this eastern coast and keeping sail, victualed for 5/m and 31 heads, and equipped with everything necessary for this voyage, will begin his journey to Mosambique at the end of this current month. The chiefs will be given such instructions (to regulate their conduct during this voyage) as are hereby conceived.

And in order that this our design could be investigated with more careful investigation of the country and nation, as well as any trade or commerce that might occur there, it was also resolved to have ten well-experienced soldiers, under the command of Corporal Daniël Balck, embark in the aforementioned corner: just as it was also found good to allow the cargo, which the aforementioned corner, or its chiefs had given along on their departure to the North for the exchange or trading of slaves,120 to continue in this way, in the hope and view that on this eastern coast there would be a better opportunity for the slave trade, or any other business, for the service and profit of the E. Compe. might offer, or otherwise, if deemed necessary and useful, use some of it as a gift.

Thus done and resolved in the Fort of Good Hope on the day and year aforementioned.
