The E. Hr. Commander Hackius presents in Council how, for some time now, it has been experienced here that things are very irregular here at the Secretariat, and that among the assistants or clerics there, no service is being done at all, because they are absent from the office most of the time, all of which, while presumably providing ample cause and occasion for such irregularities, is that the first cleric, Christiaen Hasselbergh, even takes the lead in this, and therefore, for this and other considerable reasons, it would not be deemed expedient and necessary to consider a suitable and capable person, who would be provisionally admitted as secretary, a condition which the Council Having been requested and deemed highly necessary, after careful deliberation, Hendrick Crudop, Assistant Secretary here, was unanimously nominated for this purpose, as being of reputable character and good comportment to fill the position of Secretary. This had already been satisfactorily established in the presence of Commander Borghorst. Crudop, having presented this quality and condition to him, gratefully accepted it and subsequently took the following oath.
I promise and swear to the illustrious High Mightinesses and States General of the United Netherlands, my sovereign, and to the Lords, Directors of the United East Indies Company. also to the Noble Lord Governor-General of the same state in India, to be faithful and worthy, in this office of Secretary, to undertake sincerely not to reveal the secrets of the Council or legal matters to anyone; also to exercise this office faithfully and sincerely, not to authenticate, much less to issue, any certificates, bonds, letters of injunction, or any other deed or minutes, unless the people who passed and executed them, together with the witnesses named therein, have appeared in person before me and have clearly declared their contents; As well as the minutes or protocol thereof, with the accounts and witnesses, as well as me, as Secretary, subscribed and signed, and furthermore, all regulations pertaining to this office, to punctually observe; I will not fail to do this for any favor, hatred, profit, or harm.
So truly, God Almighty must help me.
Thus done and resolved in the Fort of Good Hope on the day and year prescribed.

Commandeur Hackius draegt in Raede voor, hoe dat nu tzedert eenigen tijd herwaerts ondervonden heeft, ‘t alhier op de Secretarie zeer ongeregeldt toegaet, ende bij d’ adsistenten off clerquen aldaer bescheijden, sonderlingh geen dienst gedaan werdt, mitsdien hun de meeste tijd van ‘t comptoir absenteren, alle ‘t welcke so wel te presumeren staet, al veel aanleijdinge ende occasie van zulcke ongeregeltheden geeft, is, dat d’ eerste clercq Christiaen Hasselbergh daer zelfs in voorgaet, ende off dierhalven, om dese ende and’re considerab’le redenen, niet wel dienstigh ende noodigh zoude g’oordeelt werden, dat men zijne gedachten liet gaen omtrent een habijl ende bequaam persoon, dewelcke men bij provisie tot secretaris admitteerde, welcke conditie bij den Raat g’amplecteert ende hoog noodig g’oordeelt zijnde, is, naer rijpe deliberatie met eenpaerigheijd van stemmen daertoe genomineert Hendrick Crudop adsistent alhier ter Secretarie bescheijden, als zijnde gerenomeert voor een habijl persoon ende van goet comportement, om het secretarisampt te becleden, zijnde oock al voor dato, bij ‘t aanwesen van den Commandeur Borghorst, zulx al genugsaam vast gestelt; welcke qualiteijt ende conditie hem Crudop voorgestelt zijnde, heeft deselve danckbaerlijck aangenomen ende daerop den naervolgenden Eedt gedaan.
Ick belove ende zweere de doorlugtige Hoogmogende Hren. en Staten generael der Verenigde Nederlanden mijne souveraine, ende d’ Hren. Bewindhebberen van de Vereenigde Oost Indische Compe. mitsgaerders den Edle Hr. Gouverneur generael over derselver staet in India, gehouw ende getrouw te wesen, in dit ampt van Secretaris mij opregtelijck te quijten, de secreten van den Raadt ofte rechts-saecken aan niemanden t’ openbaeren; Zulx mede dit ampt vromelijck ende oprecht te bedienen, geen attestatien, obligatien, brieven van verbanden, ofte eenige andre acte ofte minuten te zullen authentiseren, veel min uijtgeven, ten zij de luijden die deselve gepasseert ende verleden hebben, in persoone voor mij ende de getuijgen in deselve genoemt, gecompareert zijn, ende de inhouden derselver duijdelick verclaert hebben; Mitsgaeders de minuten ofte prothocolle daervan, bij de compten.116 ende getuijgen, mitsgaeders mij, als Secretaris, gesubscribeert ende onderteijckent zijn, ende voorts alle ordre tot dit ampt pertinerende, punctuelijck t’ onderhouden; dit zal ick niet naerlaten om eenige gunst, haet, profijt off schaede.
